How do you guys think the iTP A3 would stack up against a 4sevens Preon 1? Preon claims 70 lumens OTF and the iTP claims 80 lumens, not specified if its OTF though. Very well could be! What do you think?

I doubt the 80 lumens rating on the ITP A3 is OTF....likely emitter lumens.

First, the ITP uses a Q5 (vs. the R5 of the Preon), and second the reviews and tests of Selfbuilt (search CPF), on these two lights, indicate the Preon is brighter than the A3.

It would be my guess that the ITP A3 has between 55 and 60 out-the-front lumens. Maybe someone who owns both of these lights can confirm.

I read reviews that said that a preon just a tiny bit brighter than a Fenix LD01 and an iTP A3 is also the same. Doesn't the XP-E Q5 emitter have a brighter hotspot while the XP-G R5 has more spill?

That would be my guess too, it's not 80. Very useful medium mode though. Out of my flashlight collection, this is certainly the best value for money light.

Well comparatively speaking, it actually doesn't look like the preon has anymore spill than any of the others based on those few pictures.

Is is brighter than your MiNi AA? Or close? As I am guessing since its only rated 80 lumens.

I have 3 MiNi AA (Titanium, Neutral and regular)
and 3 ITP A3 (Titanium, Stainless steel and regular)

I think they have the same brightness but MiNi AA doubles the runtime of A3.:grin2:

So would you say that iTP rates their lights from OTF lumens then since its about as bright as your MiNi AA at 90 OTF lumens?

Well I'm still glad to see that the Maratac/iTP are still competetive with the Preon and Illuminati. I am happy that I didn't buy an outdated AAA EDC light.

That is an extremely valid point. But I would spend more money purchasing an American made product rather than buying a cheaper Chinese made product that is still very good and supporting the Chinese economy. If there were a version of this light for $30 made in the U.S., and a $20 version Chinese made, I would spend the extra $10. It is an excellent light though. I do not regret buying it even though its Chinese made.

A few months ago I was looking for Toy Story for my 3 year old (it's currently in "the vault"). I found the Toy Story 1 and 2 two pack offered by several buyers on that well know bidding website. One buyer had it available for $20, shipped from China, no gaurantee on authenticity. Another buyer had the product shipping from NYC with guaranteed authenticity, the price was $30. I opted to pay for the authentic product as I did not wish to support bootlegs. I can't even tell you how pi$$ed I was when it turned out to be an obvious bootleg as well.

I still think the MiNi AA is still brighter but its hard to distinguish since both have different tints and a small difference in OTF lumens seems the same in the naked eye (as most in this forum says so).:grin2:

Hola Ian. Since you have the most # of Itp A3s would u b kind enough to tell me if the 14mm diameter specs pertains to the head or to the battery tube? It seems in the pics the head is slightly thicker than the body. I would prefer it to be slimmer than 14mm albeit being so is still fine for my purpose w/c is to mount it on my TARGET BLOWGUN (see page 1 if u pls). I like the ss version as it would blend well w/ my rig. Anyone other than Ian pls? Thanks and more power.:twothumbs

I have just measured it and the head is 14mm and the body tube is around 10-11 mm. It was hard to measure that part because of the keychain connection point that sticks out.

On my stainless A3 , I get 14mm across the knurled part of the head and 12.55mm across the knurled part of the body ... 67.22mm long , excluding the keyring pip which is another 2.1mm long by 4mm diameter ... Mine weighs 35 grams with an Eneloop fitted.

Hope this helps.
