The typical Optimist/Pessimist question.
Is the glass half full or half empty?

My favorite reply is
"The glass is twice as big as it needs to be" :)

However I was listening to a [Sir] Terry Pratchett Discworld book, unfortunately I don't recall the title.
He said [any error in the quote is due to my faulty memory, but the idea is correct] "What happened to my drink, and my cup was much larger"

So, there are two replies. What replies do you know, or can come up with.

I can't see it very well, let me shine my light on it. Oh, it boiled away, it's empty now. Oh, the glass melted

I constantly go about seeing the universe in grains of sand, I feel magnificently wealthy at some of the simplest things; a morning Starbucks on their outdoor patio while reading a Kindle book on my $20 phone, that's just ballin'..

Doesn't matter if it's half full or half empty. Just be grateful you have a glass and there's something in it.

Thanks Norm  I stop in now and then. But my current endeavors don't allow me the time, that I used to have, online:ohgeez:

My cup is full. I'm blessed and I know it...
My cup runneth over. Praise God!

While I appreciate, REALLY APPRECIATE, all the positive full glass comments. I was hoping for humor :)
So, please keep all comments coming. Funny to go off [what I thought of as] topic, and wind up with a better thread :)

An optimist believes the glass is half full.
A pessimist believes the glass is half empty.
An engineer believes the glass is incorrectly sized.

The scientist says a guess based on a visual cue is inaccurate, so mark the glass at the bottom of the meniscus of the content, pour the content into a bigger glass; fill the empty glass with fresh content up to the mark; add the original content back in; if the combined content overflows the lip, the glass was more than half full; if it doesn't reach the top, the glass was more than half empty; if it neither overflows nor fails to reach the top then it was either half-full or half-empty. Now what was the question again?

Yes,but as an engineer (and having a small glass  )i would also like a few different sizes, but does this mean the bigger the glass the more positive(or negative) one potentially could be................

Nightshade-So with the above, having several sizes of glasses,i am able to fill up the smaller ones from the larger becoming more positive:)

Technically, the concept of the glass is based on ratio and not volume...anyways, I believe that "glass half empty" kind of people CAN be more optimistic and motivated than "glass half full" people. While a glass half full person may settle for what they have, it may be reluctantly with the mentality that nothing better awaits them. They will often times underrate or undervalue themselves. A person whose glass is half empty, on the other hand, will usually want to fill his or her glass to the point of excess. They may even go so far as to get a second glass to hoard or to share. They almost never underrate themselves, and are constantly striving to grow and better themselves and the others around them. They have a "glass half full" mentality and try to fill their glass when it is half empty.

The real way to tell which half of the glass you see is to gauge the reaction AFTER the initial observation as to the filled state of the glass. That, I believe is the true value of the parable of the glass.
