How Full is Your Glass?

The typical Optimist/Pessimist question.
Is the glass half full or half empty?

My favorite reply is
"The glass is twice as big as it needs to be"

However I was listening to a [Sir] Terry Pratchett Discworld book, unfortunately I don't recall the title.
He said [any error in the quote is due to my faulty memory, but the idea is correct] "What happened to my drink, and my cup was much larger"

So, there are two replies. What replies do you know, or can come up with.

Yes,but as an engineer (and having a small glass :laughing: )i would also like a few different sizes,but does this mean the bigger the glass the more positive(or negative) one potentially could be................

Technically, the concept of the glass is based on ratio and not volume...anyways, I believe that "glass half empty" kind of people CAN be more optimistic and motivated than "glass half full" people. While a glass half full person may settle for what they have, it may be reluctantly with the mentality that nothing better awaits them. They will often times underrate or undervalue themselves. A person whose glass is half empty, on the other hand, will usually want to fill his or her glass to the point of excess. They may even go so far as to get a second glass to hoard or to share. They almost never underrate themselves, and are constantly striving to grow and better themselves and the others around them. They have a "glass half full" mentality and try to fill their glass when it is half empty.

The real way to tell which half of the glass you see is to gauge the reaction AFTER the initial observation as to the filled state of the glass. That, I believe is the true value of the parable of the glass.
