Best optic for a single XP-G?

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping maybe some of you had experience specifically with single-XP-G applications. Between the xml, mc-e, and sst emitters I've built lights around I've tried dozens of reflectors and optics with varying results. I'm doing this project as a favor and an hoping for...

Best optic for a single XP-G?

Hey gang, A friend has asked me to retrofit a dead Halcyon 10w HID delrin head with an LED. Because of cooling concerns and to keep the output close to original I'm leaning toward a 500 lumen XP-G (NWBrewer's recommendation) but I need to pick a reflector or optic for it. Any recommendations...

Triple XML vs single XML 27mm Ahorton aspheric

Just measured. Lens is actually 49.5mm. Projected beam at tightest focus is 23cm (9in) at 2 meters. Using H6CC @ 6a and 11.1v 9.6ah Li-Ion. Mag head bored out to recess aspheric lens. Plastic spacer forward of aspheric keeps it in place. Stepped acrylic flat lens out front. There is about 5mm...

Triple XML vs single XML 27mm Ahorton aspheric

SST-90 behind a DE 51mm aspheric projects a pretty large beam. That's what I'm using as my primary light these days. I wouldn't mind something a bit tighter. Good overall output though. I'm also one of the high-particulate low-vis types.

    No skill sharpening system suggestions

A quick comment here from a knife maker. Regardless of the system you choose it is very important to keep your abrasive clean. Stones and ceramics load up quickly. They need regular cleaning to stay effective. I clean my stones with bathroom cleanser such as Comet and use a fingernail brush. Add...

    Maglite stepped lens design

On my next lens I was going to try and sandwich the lens blank between two pieces of smaller diameter with light adhesive. Hold the smaller pieces with the chuck and tailstock. Then separate the pieces and remove the adhesive.

DiveRite 10w HID to Aspheric XM-L

Regarding aspheric vs. reflectors... I'm mixed about it. My current primary light is a ssr90 behind an aspheric. No spill of course. Absence of backscatter is great, but if there is no ambient light it's challenging. For example, I did a deep low vis wreck dive with nwbrewer in Sept. It was...

DiveRite 10w HID to Aspheric XM-L

No air gap and flat lens forward of the aspheric? Sorry if it's there and I'm missing it. I'm viewing on a tiny phone screen.

How many dive lights do you own?

Packhorse, you should sell off the less-used lights to free up funding and space for the new ideas. In my neighborhood you can sell DIY canister lights in a heartbeat. There are a lot of divers who won't pay $1k US for a commercial light but will happily pay $300 for a decently built custom. I...

    anyone familiar with Idaho?

Idaho is almost like a continent for its varied climates, topography, and economies. There's something there for everyone. Boise is the strongest economy, so that would put it high in my rankings. Other parts of the state are prettier but if you can't make a living there...

    alternate MC-E driver recommendation

Actually, I was wrong, my HID is rated as 1850 lumen. I ordered parts last night, so we'll see how it goes. I'll post back with some results & UW beamshots in a few weeks. Thanks again. -Ben

    alternate MC-E driver recommendation

my 35w hid is rated at 1400 lumen. Driving a MC-E at 700ma per die should output 700+ lumen, right? Hence the "half" expectation. I'll be using a Fraen spot reflector made for the MC-E. Beamshots I've seen look great. But I'm a LED newb. School me if I'm missing important stuff, please...

    alternate MC-E driver recommendation

Been lurking for a while and need to ask a favor. I built a 35w HID dive light that I power with a 9ah 11.1v pack. I get a 3hr burn, which is normally enough for a day. I'm going on a trip and will be in the water 7-8hrs per day so the current setup isn't going to cut it. I'd like to put an...
