    Streamlight Polytac LED Quicky Review

Received my new black PolyTac LED today and have to say I'm impressed. It's my first polymer light and I like it. It feels good and solid in the hand. I like the tight high-quality central beam combined with a moderate spill pattern, a great combination for general purpose use. I like the...

What's the fascination with 123 cell flashlights?

Much of the reason for CR123 lights is history. It was easier and more efficient to drive LEDs from 3v CR123 than a 1.5vAA, and using 2xAA in series to get 3v meant a larger light. More advanced electronics today removes some of the that reason.

I wish my Lowes would stock them so that I could participate in these discussions. I check every few days and no luck so far.

check out my first nice flashlight. what's your review?

grass disaster: You have wandered into the mystic realm of hopeless flashaholics — those who have an infinite fascination for all things flashlight and an incredible ability to rationalize the purchase of new flashlights, whatever the cost. The lights you have chosen are good and you are wise...

Anyone want the new Ray-o-Vac 4W?

OMG!!!!!! It's been a few days since I checked the forum and I come in today and find a big long thread about a RAY-O-VAC light. OMG! My immediate impression was one of bewilderment and disbelief. The forum must have been taken over by flashlight illiterates from the 1970's. On further...

    Addicting Hobby

Yes, it's addicting. The only way I've found to counter it is to get another expensive hobby or interest. That way, you have no money left for flashlights.

    Fenix or Surefire?

This is always an interesting discussion so I'll add my 2 cents worth. Surefires are built like battletanks - rugged, durable, heavy, dependable, well-engineered, good performance, but slow to add leading-edge capabilities. Fenix is like a ninja warrior - small, lightweight, nimble...

How many lights do you have "ready for use?"

Approximately twenty -- and I feel it's not enough. Thanks for asking.

    Lights lend a helping hand

Great story. It just proves you can't have too many flashlights, and that one light can't do everything. I usually have at least two in the car glove box, one in my pocket, one on my keychain, and at least a couple in whatever case or bag I'm carrying in the car. And sometimes I feel I don't...

    Wrist watches

Maybe I'm old school, but I couldn't imagine ever not wearing a watch -- although I've known people (well, one person) who didn't. I think there's a fundamental difference between having your time device attached to your body (watch band) versus having a cell phone that isn't. That must be...

What made you interested in flashlights?

Simple. I got caught in a high-rise office building fire about 1997. Everybody evacuated down the stairs. The emergency lights in the stairwells failed. Nobody had a flashlight and it was pitch black dark. I've always had a flashlight on me or nearby since then. I appreciate flashlights for...

Tritium watches-just how bright should they be?

My experience with tritium is with a three-year-old Marathon Navigator and a new Luminox 3900. The Luminox is slightly brighter than the Marathon, which is plenty bright enough to be able to read the time in all light conditions. The Marathon is my beater and has suffered much abuse. One of the...

Besides Surefire, what's are some other excellent brands?

Without trying to make a long list, I would say that most brands that cost you more than $5.95 are very respectable and differ from Surefire only in ways and degrees that only discerning enthusiasts can tell. I've been extremely pleased with "no-name" (not recognized by general public) Asian...
