    Picked up what is an odd round body Surefire today.

    That is the early round body without the grooves each side of the knurling. The earliest tail caps had the smooth button and did not have model markings. I believe that you have a correct combination.

    3xAAA to single 18650 adapter

    I have converted several 3xAAA lights to use 18500 cells. I used 3/4" CPVC pipe. The OD is .875", which is fine, but the ID needs to be opened to .734" to fit unprotected cells and probably .750"/19mm ID to fit protected cells.

    Are you faithful to only one brand?

    No, not now, but I started with Surefire (now with Malkoff) and that was it for years. But I have added Streamlight, Sunwayman, Olight, Solarforce, Eagletac and a few others to my collection. If I see something interesting, I'll buy it and if I don't like it I'll mod it.

    Should I Convert Surefire 6Z to LED?

    I just put a 3 mode LED in my 6P. The cost was under $20. About four times the light and longer battery life. The 5 mode with strobe function are available at the same price.

    Questions regarding maglites

    The older C and D Maglights used the PR style bulbs. The latest ones use a proprietary bi-pin bulb. Like a larger version of the mini-mag bulb. The new bulbs also come with an adapter for use in older flashlights.

    My planned budget is always less than I spend. My cheap light is an Inova X2 that I bought at Target for <$20 on clearance. But I have a Surefire 6P and 9P. Then there is the Streamlight Scorpion and at least 6 mini mags that I can find. Oh, and a Solarforce L2m and a few P60 drop ins on the way.
