I like the Pelican 2350; single AA, very bright, 3 modes (high/strobe/low), pocket clip that doesn't clip on. It's a little chunky, but easily carried daily.

I bought a 6P when they first came out as my backup flashlight when I was in LE. It impressed me with its brightness and portability. I finally gave it to a buddy after I upgraded if to LED. 20 years old and going strong today!
I just picked up Both a Streamlight Protac HL and the 2L for work. The HL is crazy bright and the 2L is very pocketable. Both run 2 CR123 and together would probably both be under $100 from the jungle place on line.
