Upgrade: Technisub Alulight 20W halogen to 3xP7

Hi I did not do any specific calculation for the heatsink but I knew that to get the heat from the LED to the lamp housing, the edge of the heatsink needed to be thick. The light is not too heavy, but there is scope to hollow out the underside of the heatsink to reduce some weight if needed...

Upgrade: Technisub Alulight 20W halogen to 3xP7

I finished my similar light using 4*18650 and 3 P7 27mm reflectors I just finished my first dive trip with it and I was pleased with how it performed.

Out of all the DIY light designs out there ....

I have not seen anyone ripping apart a perfectly good 35W HID, that would be a little foolish, best to sell the complete working light if you dont like it. But if you have a 10W HID with a blown bulb then I would be inclined to spend the $100 on an LED based replacement rather than a new bulb

    Threading problem...

Going by the chart, if the 42 and the 36 were swapped over, you would get a pitch of around 0.5  Other than that, I would get a test piece and try to get another thread size, perhaps one that requires the lever in a different position, that might eliminate some source of error.

Oceanic Canister Light upgrade - FINISHED

The heatsink is a very close fit to the body, It gives makes a nice psssshhhtttt sound as the air is forced through the hole that the wires go through. I will try some thermal paste but I often find the paste is sticky and I dont want it to stick as I need to take it out each time I charge...

    HipFlex current level scaling %

Thanks, I thought it was strange it was not published as the rest of his documentation is very thorough. Level 1 does seem to be very low, Ill try it at level 2 or 3, Just trying to get low level low enough so It will save power and high enough that you dont spend all time using high.

    HipFlex current level scaling %

I have a few of Georges drivers, and from what I understand from the documentation once the maximum current level is set, the minor levels scale up to the maximum current ie for a HipFlex, I have set the current to 2800ma Level 1 = a% of 2800ma Level 2 = b% of 2800ma Level 3 = c% of...

Oceanic Canister Light upgrade - FINISHED

Re: Oceanic Canister Light upgrade - Incomplete After a bit of a pause and loosing my HipFlex that I had put away in a really safe place I got round to finishing the light. The only extra thing I did was to machine a shim to replace the old reflector as the lens sat on the lip of the...

    Why Delrin? [Spelling corrected]

I keep seeing Delrin being used as a material for Dive lights - whats the reason? Its more expensive than nylon, so I assume that it has some advantage. I was thinking of using a plastic end to a lantern style light, The demands would not be great, basically a fat disc with a couple of o-ring...

Oceanic Canister Light upgrade - FINISHED

Re: Oceanic Canister Light upgrade - Incomplete I am mounting the LED to the heatsink directly. I will need to isolate the slug. I put a thin layer of Arctic Alumina on the bottom of the LED last night. (but did not stick them down) I will file down the AA as thin as possible to ensure...

    LED and battery selection help

You still need to define more clearly what you want this light to do and why? If it is a design project that remains on paper then the only thing they (Cranfeild?) will have to judge you on is what choices were made and why you made those choices. Is it for recreational diving - or a work...

Oceanic Canister Light upgrade - FINISHED

I bought an Oceanic OP20i off ebay with a view to upgrading it. It is a traditional cannister light - about the same size as a Kowalski but a heavier body and slightly larger i.d. It runs 5 sub-c's and a 20watt bulb - adequate but not much more. I quite like the construction, The bulb is...

    Laser for continuous operation

A friend of mine is opening a beach bar / dive shop, it is located a bit further up the beach than the other places so misses out on passing trade. Infact it would be easy to miss it completely as the beach curves away inshore so there is no direct line of sight to the property from the main...
