Here's where all the Coleman-heads hang out. Great bunch of guys and they know everything about Coleman lanterns:

Maybe you don't have enough wire in the gen and you are getting too much fuel? Air intake clean? You can't buy gens for this...
Just got my Lightstar 80 last night and gave it a run on Rayovac Hybrids. I got the same results as Stream, about 4.5 hours on NiMH with decent regulation. No perceived brightness difference between the supplied alkalines and NiMHs either.
Very nice little inspection light: good finish...
This seems to be a good thread about the Northstar from lantern enthusiasts:

If you don't mind a China-Petromax, you might want to search for "stpaulmercantile" who sells the Butterfly (base for Britelyt?)...
Sorry, I don't anyone who's currently importing the Bundeswehr lanterns to the US. Apparently this last happened around a decade ago and they sometimes pop-up on fleabay and the like. I see that one guy on the bay is still selling them directly from Germany, but you have to pay $$$.
Just remember, it's really not a good idea to use a Petromax with gas/CF. Kerosene only, despite the claims of the sales literature.

You better do a little websearching on BriteLyt. I think most of their stuff is on backorder anyway...

It sounds like it's time to invest in a bottle of Deoxit. :)
Just received the showerhead in the mail today. Great upgrade! Very pleased with the performance in my 4D Maglite with half-dead akalines; it makes the old...
I just ordered some 2AA -> D adapters from ebay.
[link removed]
From the pictures, they seem a little nicer than the adapter DX sells but are a bit more expensive.
Ideally, it would be nice to get cheap 3AA -> D (parallel) adapters, but they don't seem to exist.
Well, this is as good a time as any for my first post. I own a Coleman 639C.
First off, there are some obvious differences between the two lanterns you mentioned, the biggest being the 639 is a one mantle lantern versus the two mantles of the 285. Having used mine for awhile, I think the big...
