    How shockproof is Surefire?

Al has brought up a good point about hardend glass. Most side windows on cars are made of HG but in a panic most folks will try to break it by hitting it dead centre. Doing this will almost certainly blunt or damage a Surefire bezel and still leave the window intact. Aluminum, even HA111...

    Surefire Lights - The Future?

Global markets and the War on Terror have provided good times for Surefire and nothing in the immediate future appears likely to change. Whilst competitors will probably be able pick up sales with speciality items like the Gladius for law enforcement the military is where the money is. I...

    G2 with P61 and Pila 600S

If SCblur is right and you are underdriving the bulb the result will be a considerably shortend bulb life. I guess only time will tell but if it does reduce P61 bulb life then any advantage of free lumens from rechargeables is cancelled out by the cost of new bulbs at Surefire prices!! Doug

Do all P1's look like this?

It's a pity that our view of Chinese made products has been so skewed over the years by cheap and nasty imported rubbish. Who amongst us hasn't bought something from China which hasn't fallen to bits or failed to work shortly after purchase? However, the reasons for this are more to do with the...

Do all P1's look like this?

I think Steve Vance has probably hit the nail on the head about how these lights are assembled. FWIW the tail threads on all my Fenix lights are fine. However, a bad piece of alluminum (and I expect Fenix machines quite a few bad bits) wont machine well even with a CNC! Doug

    Hey All, Gladius question

I think it would be correct to say that quite a few do rattle but not all of them. I understand that the recent revision to the tailcap has reduced this annoyance to an absolute minimum. Maybe I've been lucky but all 3 Gladius tailcaps I've got are rattle free. 2 are fom the very earliest...

    police use?

Forgive me for expressing an opinion but a good flashlight for your personal use carrying out law enforcement duties is worth spending money on. The old adage that you get what you pay for is especially true for something that may well save your life one day. May I ask what exactly you have in...

Gladius - Like Night and Day

The drop down feature is part of the Gladius thermal protection circuit and is designed to allow the 3 watt LED to remain at optimal temperature without prejudicing longevity of the LED. The activation period until the circuit kicks in is dependant on environmental and other factors and doesn't...

Do all P1's look like this?

It would seem that the bodies of Fenix lights are consitantly made to a high standard which indicates (to me) mass production techniques. However, from the appearance of the solder joints I've seen and the one you have pictured I've no doubt that a less than skilled solderer has/is responsible...

    SMJLED or TLE-5

I've got both and my subjective opinion is that for neither is a bad buy. Both of these LED's will provide much better light than the incandescent bulb and both are great value for the money with the winner being the SMJLED, based on cost. Of course the SMJLED really needs conditioned Lithium...

The last mini maglite bulb i'll ever use.

Boy you really did dive in the deep end by asking for help without lurking for a while! As you have already found out this place is renowned for its friendliness and the way folks will offer to help each other. Unfortunately, unless you are already familiar with some of the products and items...

    L0P died...

The problem with Fenix lights,or with any other product made to a price, is that QC and aftersales are not factored into the final retail cost. Chinese products are very often of poor quality but only because (in most cases) the importer specified the unit cost be kept to a minimum. Electronic...

    Blackhawk Night Ops Mod-U-Lok

Unfortunately I cant help. Although I've got an early release BH nylon holster for the Gladius the original ones were withdrawn shortly after release for modifications. The one on their website now is the 'improved version'. AFAIK the BH nylon holsters cant be used any other way than up! The...

    Question re. E2E and safety

5 years ago I did a project to find out about safety torches (flashlights) for use by UK ambulance personnel. During the course of researching safety lights it appeared that several 'incidents' had occurred with torches exploding. Most of the reports came from the US and I remember one incident...

    Blackhawk Night Ops Mod-U-Lok

The holster doesn't rotate but it can be mounted in various positions, ie inclined forwards/backwards or even upside down. However, in order to do this you require the correct mounting plate that BH sells specifically for this holster. Doug PS! I can't remember the part number but it...
