Hi guys, good thread. At first I purchased the EcoSmart 15W r30 bulbs from home depot, but was disappointed to see they had a start-up delay and didn't dim well (not to mention 30k color). After reading this thread, I returned them and picked up some of the Lowe's Utilitech Pro BR30's at 27k...
That thing would not be good to use if it's continuous. That's not to say permanent laser home hair removal is impossible. The best method I have read is to first get a waxing, then rub carbon black into the follicles and wash the surface. The carbon black efficiently absorbs the IR energy...
Update: more pics!:
The finish has evened out and become shiny after waxing a few times.
this photo was taken with it running at 135mW at night with humidity in the air.
Hi, if you want pen lasers, check out Nova laser, and if you want more powerful lasers, check out Laserglow. They are both run by the same person, and the quality is much better than DX, so is the price.
Hi, it's time for the latest installment in building.. a LG ggw-h20l 6x blu-ray burner was sacrificed for its beautiful gem 405nm laser diode. This time the kenbarrel kryton was anodized in sulfuric acid using the procedure I outlined in this thread. Then the barrel was cleaned and waxed with...
It's not just ruined by a few bad apples, It's ruined by a few bad apples and a hypersensitive govt.
You'd think making the act of lasing a plane illegal would be enough, and it should be. After all, that's what this law is supposedly trying to prevent.
But they went a few steps further and...
Milos is right, there is stainless steel piping available that fits perfectly around the top of the diode so that you can press on the base only to push it out. It works fairly well and is less dangerous than pressing on the front of the diode, because any deformation in the metal can can cause...
Hemlock_mike has sent me one of these that met a premature end. Here are some phtos of the internals. You can see the pin conection arrangement clearly, as well as a shattered facet. Also it's interesting to note the z-like gold electrode on top, instead of the usual straight sliver.

It appears to say 'CO2 laser' which would mean it's a high power infrared laser, very dangerous because you cannot see the light as it's blinding you. It could be used for cutting and burning though (goggles a must, and probably water cooling, too).
