    Flashlight as bike light

I've been loving the Imalent DM21 as a bike light. The rotary switch is a pleasure to use and one can quickly change from the lowest to highest output, or anything in between. The capacitative switch is a little PITA though and one must always remember to lock the light on, so when changing...

    IT'S GIVEAWAY TIME! January Contest

I would have loved to get the FD40 It does not have the ugly beam of a traditional aspherical flashlight and uses a high capacity 26650 cell. :)

    A question about NiMH batteries

This dinosaur recommends that you accept your losses and buy a better charger that charges cells individually. Additionally, I'd suggest buying a single AA powered flashlight or headlamp so you can have a use for the other three cells. :D

Hello Imalent. Does this light use PWM in the lower modes like with your DM21 flashlight? Thanks :)

    Headlamp for running

Almost any light, if too spotty, can be made floodier by adding dc-fix as marker6 mentioned. A cheap, readily available option is scotch satin tape. (green box). I like the fenix hl23 for a light weight, single cell light. Double cell would be the nitcore HA20 or the HL35 as Tac Gunner mentioned.

    Cleaning the lens

dishwashing liquid to remove the grease, use a clean kitchen sponge or toothbrush if you wish to assist with grease removal (grease from 'O' rings for eg), then dry with a piece of newspaper. If your light isn't water resistant enough to wash under the tap, use methalyted spirit and newspaper...

I came on board here in 2003

Hahahha. 'Arc'! I never got myself one of those AAA lights. Went for the cmg infinity ultra instead then upgraded it with Nichia NS then Nichia GS LEDs. Whooo hooo! Keith, it is nice remembering and reminding the younger ones of the past. It is quite refreshing how far we've come over the years.

100W led on 50W CC Driver? Basics about CC drivers

options 1 and 2 will LIKELY fail because the output voltage of the driver is from 30-36V. The assumption being that the lowest voltage it can provide is 30V. In a similar situation, connecting a 12V powersupply to an XM-L or even MT-G LED will kill them for sure. 3) Running the LED at 50% max...

Budget hotspot free light to appease crazy dog?

lol. zoomies are not hotspot alone. They can be a wide circle without any hint of a hotspot. . To the OP: Another option would be to put scotch satin tape over the window of your current flashlight to diffuse the beam so there is minimal hotspot.

Budget hotspot free light to appease crazy dog?

Hahahahah. I suggest turning off the flashlight when he chases. :P Otherwise, a cheap zoomie as suggested above is not a bad idea.

    Active cooling in lights.

I'm not much a fan of larger and larger masses to absorb heat. I believe as idleprocess said, that getting the heat away from the LED as efficiently as possible is the best thing to do. In my mind, a flashlight with 'hollow' walls (like a thermos) is a possibility where the space is filled with...

    Another IMR question

when a liIon cell is discharged too low, the lithium in solution begins to plate one electrode as Li metal. On recharging, this metal can catch fire and the cell can potentially vent with flames. What will likely happen is that you'll loose capacity but the potential for fire is there.
