Warning about cheap Chinese LED floodlights spotlights

I bought a bunch of 20W Cool White LED SMD Floodlight Outdoor Flood Light IP65 from eBay. I got 10 of them for about $100. See below: All of these lights are now failing, after 6 months. Some have flickered right out, others have some arrays that are dead. Cheap stuff from China, oh dear...

Drilling vent holes in all of my lights in case of battery vent

Yeah, well I was talking about a catastrophic failure, not leaking corrosive gases. We seem to be on different pages.

Drilling vent holes in all of my lights in case of battery vent

Not sure what you're trying to say, TEEJ. The caulk seal will blow out easily if there's an explosive event.

Drilling vent holes in all of my lights in case of battery vent

A small dab of silicone caulk would serve the same purpose. Cellphones and other devices, in the event of a battery malfunction, would (relatively) harmlessly come apart. A sealed tube like a flashlight is quite another matter. A drilled vent hole will not stop a catastrophic battery...

    Ultrafire 18650 3000mA exploded

I only use NiMh batteries nowadays (eneloop only). I won't even use alkaline batteries because one nearly blew the cap off a flashlight by outgassing hydrogen. Tip: drill a tiny hole for venting in your flashlight if you use anything other than what I use (unless, of course, water penetration...

JNieporte, I hope you are exploring your legal options, buddy. I know some lawyers who'd love this case.

Flashlights as self-defense tools — stories thread

I also carry a Benchmade Rukus. Please do not be stupidly naive. A blinding uber-flashlight is most definitely a weapon. I've just told you how it completely blinded a potential assailant.

Flashlights as self-defense tools — stories thread

Ok, I admit that I own my TK40s for self-defense (or self-defence as some spell it). I'll start with a little anecdote, and maybe you can tell yours? I was walking with my wife at 11pm through the Presidio Park in San Francisco, where we rented an apartment. In the middle of the Park we were...

    Photos of your lights

I see there are a lot of people with my sickness here. I love knives, lights and gadgets, much to my wife's dismay. It's really quite hard to stop buying these things; the urge is almost compulsive. Must have something to do with our hunter-gatherer evolutionary past....

Used my Ultrafire U80 as a defensive weapon. Not too bad!

I walk every night with my wife and we've encountered a few aggressive dogs. I carry a TK40 for self defence (it will blind a human attacker and give me enough time to escape or get my blow in first), but it is useless against dogs. Dogs will continue an attack even when blinded. They use...

Latest and greatest in AAA LED flashlights?

Only if you go to fine details. I wanted a Maratac a few years ago but found that the boutique manufacturer/supplier wouldn't ship to Australia, or wouldn't take PayPal, or some other problem. And you cannot buy them on eBay. So I pass on them. Edit : from the Maratac website (and what a poop...

Thanks Gryffin, but I bought 4 LD01s yesterday, @ $35 each delivered. The Maratac is just like the LD01, but slightly inferior, perhaps.

Latest and greatest in AAA LED flashlights?

Thanks for your comment, HJK, and for your website, which helped me come to my decision. A website dedicated to AAA flashlight reviews would get a lot of traffic and make some good advertising revenue, if anyone is interested.
