Any mild polish for stainless steel or chrome works well. I use Autosol--a German made paste polish and a soft cloth. I'm sure your local car accessories place would have a selection.

I have both and *always* carry the Haiku.
If I didn't have a separate light with a low, low for the bedside table it might be a closer race, but I do! I have never felt the lack of the low, low while out, only at home.

Re: Jetbeam RRT-0 selector ring 5 modes 4 position selector what crazy thinking is th
Nice thought--but it won't happen!!
Lithium batteries are not allowed in Australia Post, they won't even make it onto the plane.
Even my iPhone4 had to be shipped by courier because of the lithium...
The reality is that if it's available there is always somebody who will steal it!
A few years ago I noticed the urinal in the office washroom dripping--someone had stolen the plastic nut off the overflow tube!

The last time I flew international (Toronto to LA) I was upgraded to First Class due to a aircraft failure.
The woman in front of me at security lost her nail clippers, the guy in front of her boarded with a litre bottle of water strapped to his carry-on, I had to have my shoes X-rayed and go...
If you want a diffuser that leaves you with a floody flashlight then a small circle cut from a soft CD/DVD case works well. Cut it with little 'ears' on it and it will snap into place on top of the O-ring that seals the lens.
If you want a 'lantern', then go to the local film processing outlet...
It sounds to me like some research on the physics of filters, and the spectrum output of LED's would be worthwhile.
AFAIK all "white" LED's are already filtered--to make the output look white.

I don't understand the AA criterion. Surely you don't expect a small handheld that's running on one AA to give you 500 lumens and be reliable as well?
Once you get into multiples of AA's then a larger battery size is nearly always better.
500 lumens is a lot, and will chew through any battery...
I wouldn't worry about the floody part. That is really easy to fix--have a search on the website for "diffusers". They can be very simple and cheap to make and are often removable when you want a thrower.
Many just fit over the 'lens' and are invisible unless you look into the reflector.
I...
Nice comparison. It really shows how the surrounding territory also has an influence on the lights usefulness.
The white beach really accents the flood of the 'floodier' lights and makes the distance they illuminate much less apparent.
I didn't recognise the Haiku XPG 'cause where I use mine...
