Don't know what steel the blade has, but the material in the middle of the handle is called timascus. It's layered titanium made in the same way damascus is made with steel.
My primary EDC is my Gen 3 Hinderer XM-18. Also in the pic is a TAD/Strider DUK in S110V steel. I try to carry that around whenever I can, but concealed fixed blade carry in CA is illegal. I take it out for hikes and stuff:
I haven't played with the assisted opening axis, but I've played with a bunch of manual and auto axis locks. The reason the axis lock is so popular is because of the convenience of the manual axis.
With the manual axis lock, not only can you open it just as fast as any auto, but you can close...

The Native III, having VG-10 steel means it was made in Seki, Japan. There's no noticeable quality difference because it wasn't made in the US. But if being made in the US matters, then definitely go for the S30V version.
I'm much more of a knife person than a flashlight guy. The difference between S30V and VG-10 is negligible for the average user.The difference between 440C and S30V isn't as great as HOF has explained (no offense to HOF). The wire clips should work fine. The breaking seems to be the exception...
