Convince me to get a twisty

Ok I'm convinced lol. I'm going to try out a cheaper twisty to see if I can live with it, and if I can, I'll give it to my semi-flashaholic* wife and buy a titanium one. *she rolls her eyes at my hobby, but steals all my lights.

Convince me to get a twisty

Hmm, that's what I feared. I'm worried that I'm going to spend a lot of money on a titanium light and have it turn on or fall apart in my pocket. My current keychain light is a clicky, and I have paid it literally zero attention in four years (apart from when I needed to use it) - it just works...

Convince me to get a twisty

I'm actually considering something in titanium. I'm a user, not a collector, so I'm ok with splurging on a titanium light because I know I will use it a lot. I got four years out of my Black Cat, and to be honest, I could probably get four more. I don't want to buy an expensive titanium light...

Convince me to get a twisty

I have been going through a phase of messing around with dropins for a while, and I have been having a lot of fun with it. However, I realised yesterday that what I really need most is an AAA light for my keychain. The (windowless) bathroom light went out at work, but thanks to the trusty Black...

Building a new LED mult-function flashlight

Ok, I'll bite. It would help a great deal if you explained what the flashlight is to be used for. With such unusual design parameters, I assume that this is to be a flashlight for an unusual and very specific task. The intended use will dictate everything about the design of the light. Does it...

mule flashlights - how would you use it?

+1, even if you are a camera! I set up a rig for scanning books (with a camera ) for digitizing, and had trouble lighting the pages evenly. Eventually I got the idea to unscrew the head of one of my lights, thereby removing the reflector. That bare emitter was perfect for lighting the pages up...

Are these chargers junk, or would they be ok for occasional use?

Looks like I can get one for under $15 shipped from within the US. That seems like a much better option. It will only do four at a time, but that's not the end of the world. Thanks for talking me out of the cheap crap guys :)

Are these chargers junk, or would they be ok for occasional use?

What is the significance of the 4.23v? Is that too high? Is there a thread reviewing /testing these chargers? So difficult to find information about these things without a brand name or model number :(

Are these chargers junk, or would they be ok for occasional use?

I have a decent charger that will charge 18650, 16340 etc. but it only charges two cells at a time. This is normally fine, as I don't use my flashlights enough for it to be a problem. I usually keep a charged cell and one spare cell for an 18650 light in the kitchen, and I rotate four 16340's...

    Led forward voltage question

See, I told you CPF was the best place to ask this question! :D I knew enough to be concerned that a tiny increase in voltage could lead to massive increase in current, which is why I asked before doing it, but I didn't know how it pertained to this type of circuit. Thanks so much for the...

    Led forward voltage question

This is not actually flashlight related, but my experince has been that CPFers are the most led-knowledgable bunch around, so hopefully someone can help me with this. I have a computer keyboard that I would like to modify by replacing the green leds with red ones. Unfortunately, I don't know...

I needed my flashlight in Starbucks during the day!

My light goes out on me in the bathroom all the time because it's faulty :( there's a 'trick' to turning it on which becomes second nature after a while, but it does sometimes flicker off when I'm on the can. Luckily, the switch is easy to reach while seated, so it's not too much of a problem...

Lessons from Sandy Storm power outages

I had exactly that plan in mind, great minds think alike :D Another thing that I am going to do is build a lantern that is a low output battery vampire. I'm going to make it with a D battery box, and I'm going to get adapters for every cell size so that they can be nested like russian dolls. My...

I needed my flashlight in Starbucks during the day!

I used to use my light the whole time in a similar situation. I only had a 2xAAA m@g at the time because it was before I became a flashaholic, but it sure was useful in candle mode. The problem wasn't time switches, it was that all of the pubs and even the Pizza Hut in the city center where I...

Anyone ditching quality lights and modding budget lights from ground up?

I agree, and that's why you have to do anlot of research before selecting a host. In fact, when you know you'll be replacing all of the electronic parts, the quality of the metalwork is pretty much the only criteria that you need to look at. There is NOTHING wrong with the threads and anodizing...
