Unfussy USB powered charger for old Ni-MH cells... XTAR VC4 series?

I've got a number of fairly old but usable GP AAA NiMH cells which my Maha C9000 charger doesn't like. It detects high internal resistance and refuses to charge them. Yet the same cells will charge perfectly well in an old "dumb" charger, and they will work just fine once charged (they're used...

Small EDC: Worthwhile upgrading from a 2013 Eagletac D25A Clicky?

Thanks for all your replies - in particular Chicken Drumstick, very detailed! I generally use a 14500 in my D25A, do like to have the option to use an AA NiMH or alkaline battery though. I keep a few packs of spare AAs in my work tool kit (as my insulation tester and one of my modern fancy...

Small EDC: Worthwhile upgrading from a 2013 Eagletac D25A Clicky?

Improved performance would be in terms of either LED efficiency (i.e. longer runtimes than my existing light at similar outputs), or a notably more powerful maximum output. I'm not keen on 18650 or CR123 lights though. I find them a bit bulky for carrying in a pocket (whereas my D25A slides...

Small EDC: Worthwhile upgrading from a 2013 Eagletac D25A Clicky?

Hi all. Just idly pondering if LED tech and EDC lights in general have progressed enough that it might be worth an upgrade from my long-standing EDC? I bought an Eagletac D25A Clicky, with neutral white XM-L2 U2 emitter, just over 7 years ago. (Datasheet here...

Perceptions of what is too big for EDC

My approach to EDC is that it needs to slip into my jeans pocket alongside my 2 phones (one work, one personal) without adding unnecessary bulk. I also hate - yes, HATE - anything with any pronounced bulges in the body. So it has to be as close to a smooth cylindrical shape as possible...

Budget front light for mixed on/off road use: any good 'uns?

As I'm getting fatter, balder, older and generally less fit, I've decided it's time to get my lazy carcass out on the bikes on a regular basis. (It won't do anything about the baldness or age :sigh:, but I can at least burn a bit of the lard off!) Anyway, my main riding opportunity is in the...

    Found a failed 18650...

Interesting find today when I went to charge a pair of 18650s that have sat unused for a few months: Cheap unprotected blue Ultrafires that have had very little use over the 18 months or so I've had them (they were supplied with a Trustfire 3T6 but I use protected cells in that due to it...

Looking for a compact, powerful and flexible AA+14500 EDC light...

Mind made up, order placed: D25A in XM-L2 T6 on the way, and it turns out that the supplier I used (LedFireTorches) has an 8% CPF discount code - CPF8 - which brought the D25A in just under £36 :) Fingers crossed this wee gadget will prove to be the "holy grail" EDC light that has eluded me for...

Looking for a compact, powerful and flexible AA+14500 EDC light...

I've read the opposite on a a few places around the 'net, oddly! Hopefully it'll turn out that the latest versions with the XM-L2 LED can maintain the low modes on Li-Ion. :)

Looking for a compact, powerful and flexible AA+14500 EDC light...

Also, just noticed (having posted the above) that for the same price I can get either an XM-L U2 or an XM-L2 T6 emitter, both in neutral white. The XM-L2 is more up-to-date and has marginally higher outputs, so seems the logical choice, are there any downsides to it?

Looking for a compact, powerful and flexible AA+14500 EDC light...

I suppose bulky is in the eye of the beholder!! :) I find that the Akoray is as large a light as I'd light to carry (diameter is 20mm, length 96mm). The SC52, at 23.6mm diameter, is barely any narrower than the Marsfire A T6 that I tried EDCing a while ago; that was 24mm x 123mm and felt so...

Looking for a compact, powerful and flexible AA+14500 EDC light...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The Zebralight looks an impressive performer, but even compared to the Akoray it's bulky (and is huge compared to the Quark Mini) and the UI seems overly complicated. Seems I'm still hunting metaphorical unicorns in my quest for a better EDC than the Akoray!

Looking for a compact, powerful and flexible AA+14500 EDC light...

Hi, all, can anyone proffer some assistance in fulfilling my very specific requirements for a light...? Short Version Runs on both single AA and 14500 (AA-size) Li-Ion batteries Compact size Straight, smooth shape (no bulbous head/crenellated bezels/deep machined detail) Multiple output levels...

    Most Powerful Quality Budget Light

I can't find anywhere that actually sells the "Darth" light. I want one. Purely because the name is the coolest that has ever been attached to a flashlight. :)

    NiMH battery ? for tool

Your NiCd charger probably won't be much use for charging NiMH cells, they have different characteristics which affect the way the charger determines the time for charge termination. It's still possible (at least in the UK) to buy the sub-C NiCd cells to rebuild the battery packs, I did this...
