    WTS: MiniVN

Re: WTS: MiniVN - Excellent Budget Flooder The MiniVN should be called "The Pocket Rocket"! This is no "soda can light" because it's even smaller than one of those cutesy pissant 250ml soft/energy drink cans (diameter is slightly less than a DRY, and it's a full inch shorter). My 5000K...

    WTS: MiniVN

Re: WTS: MiniVN - Excellent Budget Flooder Whew, I'm so glad you agree because that's what I was counting on when I ordered a 5000K MiniVN! I dearly love my TK61vn and some of my other big honker lights, but I live in New York and therefore have to be careful when carrying big black metal...

    TerraLux TLH-50

The TLH-50 is insanely bright for a compact everything-in-the-front headlamp. Being all metal, it's a little heavy as wall thickness is substantial, NOT paper thin. Build quality seems good, time will tell. The smooth reflector produces a good general purpose beam, not too spotty, not a lot...

Petzl NAO - high-tech headlamp review.

Maybe you're onto something. The tint of my NAO lies somewhere between the neutral of my Zebralight H600W and my cooler Princeton Tec Apex (an old one), but it's nowhere near as cool as my Petzl Tikkina 2. Some conditions seem to affect some people to a different extent than others, and...

Petzl NAO - high-tech headlamp review.

Several NAO reviews, here and other places (including mine), have mentioned the winter breath fog dimming thing, but is it really a negative? If you exhale in front of a high power non-reactive headlamp you get a big blast of bounce back in your eyes, which messes up your dark adaptation to a...

Petzl NAO - high-tech headlamp review.

I'm curious about what you were wearing under the NAO? You mentioned that it got to ~19 degrees after dark so I assume you didn't have on ultra thick headgear. I've had my NAO out in the single digits with some pretty bulky headgear on (soft/layered), and with my 7 5/8" head the front...

Petzl NAO - high-tech headlamp review.

The tint of my NAO also appears similar to to the shots in the review, quite pleasant. I too was concerned about the possibility of receiving something with a tint as blue as Petzl is known for in lights like their TIKKINA (2), and was quite relieved to receive a NAO with a more neutral tint...

Petzl NAO - high-tech headlamp review.

Maybe only sort of... Downhill skiing and snowboarding are inherent go fast activities that many people find best accommodated by constant mode lights with high output flood AND throw capabilities. Downhill type mountain bike racers might feel the same way, but I find my NAO highly...

    Fenix TK75(3*U2 LEDs, 2600 lumens)

You have to loosen the tail cap on a TK75 a LOT more than many other lights to lock it out (~2+ full turns) because BOTH the positive and negative terminals on the battery carrier are spring loaded.

    Fenix TK75(3*U2 LEDs, 2600 lumens)

Not that I could find, and the spring loaded design of the battery carrier makes it difficult to accomplish by the usual simple twist mechanical means. I had a couple of accidental activations while carrying the light around in a backpack (not in the Fenix supplied plastic case, which does...

    Fenix TK75(3*U2 LEDs, 2600 lumens)

Did some more testing with different batteries, and it looks like some brands/capacities work noticeably better than others when running on two cells. I tried a pair of XTAR 18700 2600 mAh (black) cells that also tested 100% on a ZTS Pulse Load Multi-Battery Tester, but the light dropped back...

    Fenix TK75(3*U2 LEDs, 2600 lumens)

There was some speculation in earlier posts about battery configuration, and the light is indeed Two Series/Two Parallel. Mine works fine on two 2600 mAh protected cells, as long as you get them in right. There are four plastic "pillars" in the battery carrier, two have wide symmetrical...

It's that time of year again

They've started running this holiday headlight ad again, as they have every year since at least 2005 with few changes, and it's still cute: http://www.tvspots.tv/video/43349/LLBEAN--HEADLAMPS
