How much heat comes from the front of a cob led

Just trying to work out a design here and ideally would like to know roughly how much heat comes out of the front of a cob led compared to the back. If there is data with or without a typical lense the better. Am looking for a front to back ratio as it's something I have just thought about and...

    Rx7s difference with R7s

I've noticed that the linear halogen r7s bulbs are slightly different, the rx7s's are pinched on the ends. Generally a halogen 400w r7s is around 118mm in length and a metal halide 70w is 114mm to 117mm. Now i'm wanting a cheap water resistant housing and i'm thinking that it will be cheaper to...

Blowing Cree's left and right - help!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but wouldnt this also be the same if you had a relay or switch after the driver, it would be better to place a switch before the driver, extra wiring on the 240v side but nothing to drastic.

    My leds blown, help

Hi, i kind of figured something might not have been right, but last night i did see something saying that some drivers will store a high amount of charge when the driver has been turned on but the leds are not connected, then when the leds get connected there is a huge discharge. Not to sure if...

    My leds blown, help

So i have fixed together an array of leds in series, they are 3w epiled smd chips. I am using a meanwell apc 35 500 constant current driver. Rather then testing the whole array i decided to test a strip, a sharp flash of light then nothing, one had a black inner so i knew this one had blown. I...

Heat shrink tubing on 3w emitter connection?

Yes thats correct, going to lift/bend the legs slightly upwards first then epoxy to the heatsink, stick the heat shrink over the wire, solder, then wiggle the heatshrink over the joint and shrink. Cheers mate i wish there was a like on this forum!!

Heat shrink tubing on 3w emitter connection?

Cheers mate, sorry about that, i just edited it for you. So also will mention 3w led ran at 500ma on 24mm copper end cap heatsink with a smaller 16mm end cap soldered inside to help Regards

Heat shrink tubing on 3w emitter connection?

As the title mentions, going to use thermal epoxy to attach the emitter to the heatsink, then just to stop shorts after soldering on the wire to the led heat shrink the joint, do you think this will be ok or will the heat from the led melt the tubing? Regards

    3w LEDs run @ 500ma vs 700ma

Hi, thanks for your reply, i was leaning towards silver solder, but i havent looked to see if this is possible. I will step drill the hole, hoping that it is a nice snug fit, make a jig to hold the aluminium slightly of the floor the sliver solder to take up any micro gaps and to fill any voids...

    3w LEDs run @ 500ma vs 700ma

Cheers mate you've saved my bacon again, yeah i might half that amount then. I've also brought a sheet of aluminium, 3mm thick that i will drill holes in and set the end caps in that at a space of 10mm apart. Hopefully solder them in to help with heat spread.

    3w LEDs run @ 500ma vs 700ma

Q1- So i have a selection of different coloured LEDs all in the 3w flavour. Mainly rated for around the 750ma max, i'm thinking about what driver to buy, shall i get the 700ma or the 500ma. This is for a aquarium within a small space. LEDs will be stuck onto 22mm copper end caps, these will be...

Heat sink for 3w leds copper soldered

Doh so will it be less than that, or have i got only 20-40% of 21.77w as light? So then if that is the case, it would be on par (no pun intended) with a cfl? I looked at the data sheets and followed the curve for 500ma and roughly guessed it. Thanks for your help, this is a lot more complicated...

Heat sink for 3w leds copper soldered

Cheers for the replies, it looks like i will be able to get a few better plants then, as getting a little bored with the low light one. Here is how i have come with my calculations looking at the data curve. I found where the curve came to 500ma then looked at the volts, i hope i have done it...
