If you use the New I2 to recharge LiFePO4 cells, does the charger automatically detect the cell chemistry or do you need to set the charger manually for 3.7V instead of 4.2V?
I see in Post #1 that I'm listed as down for #03, black 2x26500 Megalennium, $139. But I wanted just the body and tail for $99. Is that not an available choice? If it isn't and my only choice is the full light for $139, please let me know and I will send the balance via PP.
Re: Adventures in Modding a Blackhawk Gladius
Based on the sense resistor and the switcher IC used, the nominal drive current is about 950 mA, which is consistent with what I've measured for 3 different Gladius lights. Close enough to call it 1 amp drive current.
I have I think 4 different...
The old KL4 with the nominally 6V Lux V LED uses a boost driver, so the LED Vf has to be higher than the Vbatt. But the Vbatt can't be too low or the driver won't have enough gusto to reach full regulation. So trying to run a stock KL4 on 1xLi-ion won't quite cut it. You'll get reasonable output...
Re: Adventures in Modding a Blackhawk Gladius
Looks great.
Running a triple in parallel divides the drive current to each emitter by 3, so each XP-G2 is getting only about 330 mA of current. Based on the Cree datasheet, that's about 150 lm per LED, or say about 450 total (assuming Tj=85 C)...
Re: Mag623 with 4D Stock switch/4 imr 26650 and 85K lux
Lux's various bulb tables clearly label the filament lifetime column as "Predicted Life (Hrs)*". The word "Predicted" is a clue. The asterisk indicates that the prediction came from Welch Allyn and AWR's Hotrater program. Welch Allyn...
Re: Mag623 with 4D Stock switch/4 imr 26650 and 85K lux
bigC, if you have the right type of RMS meter, you just measure the bulb voltage setting directly. You don't need to know Vbatt. You use Vbatt only if you have an averaging meter.
The likely problem in your case is that you don't have...
I got a Coolook PB-2000 (black case) in April 2014. According to HKJ's review, there have been more recent reports (Oct 2014) of high standby drain. Mine shows excellent shelf life using green wrapper Sony 18650 pulls from laptop packs.
I use an AmazonBasics Large Point and Shoot Camera Case to...
Addressing the Seoul version of the U2, you might see a difference in the drive current at the high setting on the selector ring. It depends on how much parasitic resistance, and thus voltage drop, your light has, plus how much voltage overhead the SureFire driver needs to reach full regulation...
A little late in responding to this. The photos from yubes88 clearly show a Luxeon V emitter, which means his U2 is an older one that uses a boost driver and an LED with a Vf in the 6V range. Replacing a Lux V with an XP-G2, which will have a Vf in the <3V range is a poor choice if you plan to...
You appear to misunderstand how a constant current boost driver works. When you say that most Lux V U2s come in at aournd 5.4V-5.7V for LED Vf, what that means is that at the drive current of whatever the U2 uses (let's say it is 700mA drive), the I-V characteristics of the Lux V typically have...
All of those current draw figures are at the tail, not at the LED. With one 17650, most likely Vbatt under load is around 3.7V. Assuming driver efficiency of 85%, Vf of 6V and If of 0.7A, we get Ibatt = (0.7A * 6V)/(0.85 * 3.7V) ~1.3A. Since the measured tail current draw is only about 1A, most...
