    I've now tried sticking a 15w (230v) bulb in-line with the battery and I get around 0.03A which is too low. I guess resistors could be used anyway since the bulb doesn't seem to very hot. How do I calculate the proper value and W of a resistor to drop the current from lets say 1.6A to around 0.16?

    Thanks for the advice. The switches was a good idea. However I think I might use light bulbs instead of resistors to deal with the heat dissipation. Also, the charger would have to be on a timer to prevent overcharge. BTW: Can I put NIMH's on a continuous trickle charge without damaging them...
