    Fire Foxes IV FF4

I had an intermittent problem with mine. I thought it was the batter carrier at first but it turned out the 3 battery contacts in the head were the problem. The solder joint inside came loose. You can easily check yours with your finger. The 3 contacts should be tight, if you can wiggle 1 or all...

NightSun, VSS-3A, Starburst - Taking The Heavy Iron Out For A Walk In the Park

Re: Taking The Heavy Iron Out For A Walk In the Park Great shots, the NightSun is incredible. Thanks to you and Froggy for taking the time and patience to finally get some horizontal shots of these powerful lights. I didn't see a wattage for the VSS-3. I'm sure most know that it is 1000 watts.

    Havis Shield HID Flickering

You could buy a Stanley Model # HID0109 from Home Depot for about $ 70.00. It comes with a 12 cigarette lighter plug. I removed the battery from mine to make it much lighter, and just use the 12 volt plug in my car.

    Nitecore TM-36

Has anyone found a better, faster solution for charging the battery pack ? The 2 amp charger that came with the light takes way to long ( 16 hours ). The optional 4 amp charger is not available yet. Are there any other options ?

Here is a photo of 2 of the resistors. You can see one blew out of the gold colored heat sink.

    AN/VSS-3a with Beam Shots

Thanks Augi. I meant to say 2 power transistors, I changed my post to correct this. I have all the available TM's and did repair the light. I'm not sure that little over voltage for such a brief time is what caused it. I haven't had any problems since the repair and I'm still using the same...

    AN/VSS-3a with Beam Shots

Hi Augi, the reason I would like the voltage with the engine running is because on my VSS-3 I'm using 4 14 volt AMG batteries series-parallel for 28 volts. But when the batteries are fully charged the light gets over 30 volts for a few seconds on start up. My light failed last year burning out 4...

    AN/VSS-3a with Beam Shots

Welcome to CPF. Nice clean install. Are you running the light with the engine on or off. If your running with the engine off you will be surprised how much brighter it is with the engine on and the alternator helping with voltage. If you get a chance could you measure the voltage at the battery...

    LED Q4559X

I do not know much about aircraft, but don’t the larger airliners have problems with icing ? An incandescent or HID lamp would quickly de-ice itself. I do not believe an LED lamp would do the same. Here in Wisconsin some of our stop and go lights were converted to LED. In the winter months when...
