The first dropin was a Malkhoff, the second one was a cheapo from Amazon: "Surefire Flashlight Bulb LED Conversion Upgrade - 650+ Lumens - Cree XML - T6 Single Mode Drop-in - P60 Design: Surefire, Hugsby, Etc
I'll try the foil trick when I go back to...
The notice has been there for ages which was why I mailed him directly to check and see if it was current. He still took my order and promised (numerous times) delivery despite the notice.
Hey folks I have a job where I need a reliable bright flashlight on a daily basis.
I've had an old surefire 6p since the early 90s. A few years back I changed it over to an LED insert with rechargable batteries. I bought a high quality dropin (I'll leave the companies name out because I don't...
I found out about this website when the owner was offering the "tactical looter" on edc forums. I contacted him via email to see if the item was still being offered and he immediately emailed me back that it was available if I placed and order and paid via paypal. Estimated delivery was about 8...

I personally prefer the ROP HI myself. The 2d size just seems to work better for me. I use mine at work all the time. The ROP bulbs are cheaper and require less tweaking of your light to work. They may also be a bit tougher and last longer than the 1185 bulbs (the way we use them).
However...
Use a red light. Most of the critters cant see it and it will allow you to see what they are doing without scaring them. A cheapo red coin-cell light should work.
I bought a similar thing to that at REI a couple of years ago. I like the design of mine better though- it is round like the back of the flashlight but had two deep grooves cut into it. That way the light still fits in most holsters and doesn't have that large flat plate on the back.
Not sure...
For anyone following this thread, or trying to install their own PIR, I've managed to get mine working (sorta) with a lot of help. It is running as advertised with slow startup, and three different output levels. The problem I am experiencing is that output voltage is about half what it is set...
Geez, I apparently can't even get the board installed properly so that it will work. Am I the only moron on CPF that can't get the thing working? I used your photos, the board will come on, but the switch appears to do nothing....I can't figure out how it's supposed to be wired.
It's amazing how much hole drilling you had to do to get it to fit. I don't have a drill press so drilling the aluminum in the KIU is prohibitive. I actually already mounted my PIR the other way around, with the FET at the top and LEDs down. Figured I'd only configure it once and I could do it...
Well, that was part of my problem. The directions for programming it are a bit confusing. I've never powered mine up, so maybe it's self-explanatory once you start doing it- but looking at the instructions I'm already confused and I haven't even started the installation.
