princeton tec apex w/ 4 red ultrabrights out of box

Sure it does, you see that sticker? ;) In all seriousness, it's already a ton of hassle to side-stream a bit of their product and make a new version for one particular retailer; I can only imagine what a pain it would be to also make matching packaging. They almost certainly contract out the...

DURACELL INDICATOR CHARGER - SMART OR DUMB?

Do the test if you like. I assure you that this is a "smart" charger though. It will absolutely, definitely stop charging when the cells are full. It says so right in the PDF datasheet that you linked us to. I think that this charger is just as safe as any other good quality mass-market...

Best Boost Led driver to design around?

The Zetex C300/C310 work in boost configuration, and I've definitely powered two leds (2s) from 3V using a circuit from a gutted flashlight. I'm not sure whether it can be set up to boost 4.5v to ~20V as I have zero EE skills.

DURACELL INDICATOR CHARGER - SMART OR DUMB?

From the PDF: "Measured both with time and voltage -dv/dt" So yes, that is a smart charger; it will stop charging once the batteries are full, except for maybe a maintenance charge. Better yet it has "Single cell charging capability," which probably means four independent channels...

    Best OTC Lights?

IMO, Princeton Tec products are generally very good. Around me, the EOS and Quad are both available at ****'s Sporting Goods and Sports Authority. The packaging for old/new models is very different, and the lumen rating is also printed right on the front of the package. PT's lumen ratings are...

    'Fuel Gauge' battery meter

Here are two threads from the MTBR lighting forum that touch on battery monitor circuitry: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=442963&highlight=battery+monitor http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=482009&highlight=battery+monitor

LED effiency Watts=> light and Watts => heat

I feel a Wikipedia "citation needed" joke coming on. ;)

LED effiency Watts=> light and Watts => heat

I respectfully disagree. I believe that the two are totally independent of each other. That won't stop me from quoting from The Big Lebowski, In science, at least when we're talking about new information, the burden of proof falls on the person presenting the new information. Clearly that...

Definitely agree. The consequences of getting lost are far greater than the consequences of carrying an extra 100 grams.

LED effiency Watts=> light and Watts => heat

Indeed. I found the question and the answer interesting and useful. Then this happened; dunno where the aggression came from. :thumbsdow

    Rebel EOS/EOS II review.

On a whim, I did a quick test of the EOS's drive circuitry. I only took one data point, and I'm using amateur equipment. Anyway, it appears that the EOS is about 90% efficient on high when driven from a 4.2V supply. It would probably get a bit more efficient on batteries as Vi fell nearer to...

Cool new 2009 Energizer 1AA Trailfinder Micro

No way, that light sucked. The high beam was an inefficient luxeon I and the boost circuit cut out suddenly leaving you in the dark. If there were a new version with a high-efficiency main LED and a boost circuit that gave you some warning before cutting out, and of course, if it had a low...

How to improve the headlights of my 1997 Toyota Avalon?

Why do you feel this kit is better than the others? I have a different kit waiting around for the weather to warm up around here. It has a couple grades of paper for wet sanding the lenses and some kind of coating/sealer to finish it off. I understand the need for a hardcoat, but you're...

How to improve the headlights of my 1997 Toyota Avalon?

Get a headlight restoration kit and polish away the nicks, scratches and yellow fog that surely covers your lens assembly. Get new bulbs even if your old ones aren't burnt out. They dim a bit over time. This is also a good opportunity to get better bulbs. Sylvania Xtravision are a bit...
