Replacement (upgrade?) LED for Dorcy Lantern?

I'm fairly certain by the look of the design & lack of heatsinking that the emitter overheated being left on for an extended period, but that's a good suggestion I will verify!

Replacement (upgrade?) LED for Dorcy Lantern?

Thank you for the ideas. Hadn't heard of photonfanatic, shouldn't be hard to meet the $20 minimum, and I have a US address I can use. I'll get a side emitter and a cree to try both...if I can figure out which codes to order :o Thanks again

Replacement (upgrade?) LED for Dorcy Lantern?

I have a Dorcy 4D lantern ( http://www.dorcy.com/products.aspx?p=414291 ) that the kids left on for several hours continuous and the LED apparently overheated and fried. Now emits jut enough light to verify that it's actually on. Yes I checked the batteries. It appears to be a 3w side emitter...

    Metal 'Wire Wrap' Repairing Tools

Ah, bfg9000 thank you that's the one I was thinking of  That paperclip pack is great  I can rig up a lotta stuff, but that Clamptite tool looks like something that belongs right next to the duct tape. I've never tried the safety wire pliers, do they work well?

    Metal 'Wire Wrap' Repairing Tools

I'm hoping someone can help me... Has anyone ever used or heard of these? Not the electronic variety, but a small metal tool used to install, tighten and tie off a light gauge of metal wire, like clamping a hose, or repairing a broom handle, etc. Once upon a time there was a thread here about...

    the impossible quiz

Alteran, thank you for the offer :) I've since looked it up online, but haven't had time to try going further. As time wasters go, definitely a step up from most :D Considering how easily quite a few of the 'illogical' answers came to me, not sure if I should be proud or alarmed :ironic:

    Need Generator Advice Please

That's only 4%, won't hurt anything especially a motor/compressor. An old analog plug-in clock with a motor (does anyone besides me have one of those anymore??) would run a touch fast. If there's an easy way according to the instructions to adjust the speed, try it if you feel like it. If not...

    Which Electronic Ballasts to buy?

Thank you for the comments  I was leaning towards the names I'd heard of but wasn't sure if the others might now be amazing & I'd missed the memo ;) I'm in Canada so we don't get '$9.95 specials', and the local distributor's pricing can't touch what I see on Ebay. That's even at...

    What Resolution are you running?

Still @ 800 x 600 but I really have no idea why... Old 17" HP CRT monitor, whole system due to be upgraded within a couple months so my answer will change shortly. Thanks carbine for the best laugh I've had in weeks...I couldn't stop laughing when I read this

    Which Electronic Ballasts to buy?

So I was checking around on Ebay, thinking about buying a quantity of electronic ballasts & retrofitting/upgrading my shop's fixtures to T8 technology. A quick search turned up GE, Sasi, Osram/Sylvania, Basic 12, Triad, and Motorola to name a few. Any recommendations for which brands to go for...

Wife can't stand fluorescent bulbs' "daylight" color, coiled shape

When I met my fiance, she had one of those 300W halogen torchiere lamps in her livingroom that ran all evening 7 days a week :faint: I soon bought her a similar shaped floor lamp with a translucent glass shade & put in a 23W (100W equivalent) CF. Soft white, see explanation below. Her...

Where to get 3w star/ emitter?

Thank you FlashKat, theledlight site doesn't appear to have 3w side emitters in white, but the luxeonstar site does :) Illum_the_nation, good observation, I will see if I can add any help to the existing heatsinking, or just note to use it sparingly... I'm guessing they didn't test the run time...

Where to get 3w star/ emitter?

Thanks 65535. Any recommendations where to get one? Yes it's 6V style, has 4xD adapter in it. http://www.dorcy.com/products.aspx?p=414291 I'm not sure why it died. Actually it still lights, just enough so that in the dark you can see a barely perceptible glow from the emitter. Brand new...
