    there are some Jokes

True story: 15 years ago we needed to make up a bunch of wax-sealed letters for a project at work. My boss went off to the best stationary/art supply store in town in search of sealing wax, goes up to the counter and asks the clerk "I need some sealing wax, can you show me where it is?" She...

    Shadow Cube Lamp Bulb Discussion

You already know you need a point source. Without some optics, LEDs are not going to solve your problem. Look for a small halogen lamp with a small filament. Possible sources would be replacement lamps for vehicle indicators, vehicle headlights, outdoor path lighting, or for flashlights. You...

Dozens of torches, not a good tint to be seen.

Gel (colored plastic light filters) can't correct for bad CRI. They filter out unwanted wavelengths of light, but do not add wavelengths that are missing. No light will come through a red gel in front of a blue LED, because no red light is being emitted.

E-series tail cap on mag aa?

Can you do it, yes. I have installed E-series switches on 2AA bodies a few times...but...you have to cut off the existing AA maglite internally threaded area so there will be enough wall thickness to thread. You will lose length in the body. If you wanted a 2AA light, you would have to start...

Need UV light fr footbag/hackey sack night - glow within 10ft, dangers? OtherOptions?

Get a bag and test. You will probably find that the UV activated bag will glow best in areas with low ambient light. The safety of UV is tied to wavelength, do some research and buy appropriately, there's a huge amount of cheap flashlights available with lots of different emitters. But you...

    Maratac AAA Flashlight O-Ring

It seems to be a metric size 1 X 9 or 9.5...I measured the o-ring off my light and the inner diameter is a little less than 9.5 so it could be a slightly stretched out 9. McMaster Carr has them in bags of 50 or 100 depending on material, I'm sure you can find them elsewhere on the net.

    A shop air primer

Solberg filters are much more effective intake silencers than the cheap plastic filters most compressors come with now, if anyone needs another reason to upgrade. I recently put timer switches on the 4 compressors in my shop. The event that inspired this was arriving to work one morning to the...

    500w LED optics

There are 500 watt emitters available on ebay and other sites, caveat emptor about quality, and I'm not sure what options there are for optics and drivers. But...I'd be tempted to buy existing commercial flood light fixtures rather than build from scratch. There's a lot of engineering to be...

    The Tint Snob Thread

Printing up a color test chart defeats the purpose. All the colors will be created with the same 4-8 inks depending on the quality of the printer. A proper test chart should be created with pure pigments that reflect the appropriate wavelengths of light...i.e the green square should be...

    "Surefire" E series tailcap

Yes, that's the switch. Note the anodized bulkhead in the middle shot. I tried changing out the switch boot with a few I had in the parts drawer, but nothing I had was deep enough to allow the switch to turn "off". YMMV The mod to put a McClicky in is pretty easy if you have a largish...

    "Surefire" E series tailcap

If you go to EBAY and search for "surefire e series tailcap" all the vendors from China seem to be selling the same tail cap, or at least using the same pictures. You can't really call it a counterfeit, given the lack of functionality without some work. "Homage" maybe? FWIW mine came from...

    "Surefire" E series tailcap

There are some Chinese made "Surefire E series" clicky tail caps for sale out there on the net that look a bit like the Defender tail cap. Given the price I took a chance and ordered a couple. Why am I posting here..depending on the E series light you want to put them on, it may be a tail cap...

    Blood light

The use of "blue light" to find blood started in the age of the incandescent flashlight. The easiest way to get blue light was to put a blue filter in front of the lens, and the easiest to obtain source of blue filters...theatrical "gel". Filters absorb the unwanted wavelengths of light...

Is It Time To Switch To 4 Foot LEDs Yet?

The decision to upgrade is complicated, based on a lot of factors. The simple answer is that it will only pay to upgrade if the new fixtures/tubes are significantly more efficient than what you have now. Once you consider quality of light and fixture cost per lumen it gets more complicated...
