I have tried soldering back in the distant past when modding Arc AAs to Luxeon ) showing my age here!) and found it a right pain to solder to aluminium. I ended up crimping it every time.

You might need to play with extension tubes to get the arc at the focal point of the lens but there is no technical reason why that wouldn't work, unless I am really missing something. The camera lens is designed to focus light on to a point on the camera's sensor so if you can put a HID arc at...
It can be bored out to 18mm be t as it is a 3 cell light it is only big enough for 1.5 18650s so you would need to find 18500 cells. It can currently fit 16500 or maybe 17500 cells. I am not sure about where that head opens but Surefire loctite is notorious, you may need a heat gun and strap...
Thanks for confirming. I actually placed my order last night regardless, I went with the KL4 as I love the shape of the head. I was torn between the pineapple body and the E2E type but ended up going with the E2E, boring but a classic. Maybe I will get the pineapple next as an alternative.

Hi. I am just planning an order and wanted to check if there is any difference in beam profile between the KL1, KL3 and KL4 heads, all other things being equal?

That doesn't make sense to me. Surely, all other things being equal, a 17650 should have more capacity than a 16650 as it is physically larger. What am I missing?

It saves messing around with focussing reflectors. Another option would be to "spatter" the reflector with clear gloss spray.

Easiest way is to get some Scotch Invisible tape, it's the white translucent one, and put a piece over the lens. It diffuses the light, softens the beam and is reversible.

I understand you. I missed an M1 one and the combination of strap wrenches, a vice and a blow torch just to get it open was terrifying. I wouldn't do it on someone else's light.
