I passed my project onto a company that many of you may be familiar with. If nothing has happened with it since I can only assume they're either working hard to fix the issues I had left, or have given up on it.

I'd talk to Vinh. I designed the shells he used for his quads and I think he is having them made domestically now, but I'm not around as much as I used to be so I have no idea what he's up to now.
The head itself needs to have a small rubber foam insert installed to prevent the battery from contact the V+ on the head constantly. It looks as if the spare I sold with it is still unused.
As to why it would not fit other e-series heads...absolutely no idea. I've only ever owned the mule...
YOu can build them yourself from scratch if you are handy with a soldering iron and a programmer. I'd link you to the thread detailing this but its on another forum. I"ll PM you the details.
I simply press fit. With the ground screw and connecting ground wire there is no real need to solder the driver in place. If used properly (sitting flush on the internal shelf) the pressure from the battery will prevent the driver from ever moving. If you are particularly worried, then get some...
