Can anyone help me create the perfect shadow for an art installation?

so basicaly you are looking for a bright light source from a single LED correct? Do you know about how much light you would need? a single Cree XP-L2 LED can get you to 1200 lumen from a small 5mm x 5mm source, so that will be small enough to give you crisp shadows. Then you would need to...

    LM555 timer for fade-in of 24V LEDs

DIWdiver - Thanks so much for all the help with this and i really appreciate you taking the time to build this out for me. One question for you though - with all the resistors ( except for R4), what wattage should those be, i'm guessing 1/8 watt or less?

Looking for assistance with Fade on Timer for LED Strips

I'm going to try that actually and see how it works. the LED Strip may not turn on till almost 18 V, so i'm thinking a PWM fade on may be a better choice.

How to connect LED strip to batteries?

if you want a LED strip to run for a few days on battery, you will need a much larger battery, or a lot of smaller batteries. you could try 2 of those large 6V heavy duty batteries run together to give you a 12v output. google the Eveready 1209 battery, something like that

    Lighting for monument sigh

first off it depends on what type of power you have at that location. You can do a 12V low voltage system, such as a household pathway lights. There are a lot of nice systems with LED floods. One example is http://www.voltlighting.com/landscape-lighting-led-flood-lights/c/14. They also...
