    Fenix E01 saves the day!

I've got a few of the older model EO's, one of which has been used often, daily, since purchased a few (3-4?) years ago... and there's surprisingly little to no visible wear on the gold traces/contacts. Very little actual "scraping and rubbing" going on, really... more "clamp - un-clamp". I...

Interest: Fenix E01 with neutral or snow white LED

I've mentioned this a while back, but... I lightly shortened and re-shaped some (ugly-tinted) Nichia GS's and installed them in my trio of Fenix E0's a while back. The tint, beam (smooth, perfectly proportioned spot and spill) and overall improvement in useability/color rendition/"pleasantness"...

How to open the Fenix E0?

Yup - like Flying Turtle says - you can heat the head (I used a butane lighter) and push it out by applying pressure to the LED (I used a wood dowel). Beware doing this, though - it's possible that the LED leads will bend, pushing it down into the inductor and causing damage, if the pill is not...

    E01 in cold weather

Sounds to me like thermal contraction (from cooling) is simply exposing a faulty/broken/incomplete contact in the circuitry somewhere... like a cold solder joint, mount pad/PCB trace fracture, etc. - I'd just get it replaced under warranty, myself. It really should work just fine under the...

    Fenix E01 Simulated Beamshot

Re: aw man Ha... yeah, the thought did cross my mind. But it ended up being sooo time consuming, I'd have to get ~$100 apeice to make it worthwhile! :poof: Plus, the inductors on these particular E0 circuit boards were terribly delicate - even being extremely cautious, I ended up fracturing...

    Fenix E01 Simulated Beamshot

A while back, I got a hold of some bare GS's in a group buy, and experimented with re-shaping the LED's to improve the tint and beam quality (installed in E0's - not E01's, which have a bit different reflector shape) - I concluded that Nichia got the shape all wrong. The GS LED is longer and has...

Which driver is in the Fenix E01?

You might find what you're looking for in chimo's thread, here - http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=197045&highlight=fenix

Fenix E01 unpotted & driver efficiency data

I've been playing around with shortening and lightly tapering a few of these GS's (installed in E0's), and the improvement in beam smoothness (lack of rings), spill, and especially tint (pure, even snow white!) has at times been remarkable. Definite loss of throw, however (oblong, violet/blue...

Fenix E01 unpotted & driver efficiency data

Re: Fenix E01 opened up & Driver data FWIW - I just looked at one of my E0's - Switcher IC is marked 3036 (vs. Chimo's E01's 3033) Diode looks the same - marked SJ Resistor is numbered 120, and measured 13.1 Ohm (in circuit... so not sure what that's worth). No markings on Cap. Great...

Fenix E01 unpotted & driver efficiency data

Re: Partial Fenix E01 driver data Nice info, Chimo! I wonder if it would be possible to polish smooth the battery tube's negative contact ridge, in order to minimize the wear on the board's contact. I've done that on some E0's (much easier than the E01, it appears), and they seem to...

    What Will The Future Bring?

Ah... makes perfect sense. Would need a smokin' hot LED to work - the opposite of what we want. Silly it was, then! Although... how about using the boiling fluid inside a heatpipe to spin a tiny turbine, driving a nano-generator that recharges the battery... :duck: :)

    What Will The Future Bring?

Hey... that gives me a (probably silly) idea - why not mount the LED to a heatsink that itself is a thermocouple - thereby converting the otherwise wasted heat energy back into electrical energy - to re-charge the battery, for example. Like re-generative braking on an electric/hybrid car! Nah...

    My Quick Fenix E01 Review

Great stuff, TIN - thankyou! :goodjob: This light does appear, indeed, like a no-brainer. 0.41V - outstanding!

I Received My Fenix EO1 Today...

I'm curious, too... hopefully, there's enough bent lead on the LED to do a little "extending". FWIW - I've messed around with adjusting depths of Nichias in these basic, conical reflectors (ARCs, Infinities, E0s), and I've found there is a definite "sweet spot", where the LED ends up protruding...
