    Fisher Space Pen

That's the thing, I'm a complete nerd for that aesthetic. I believe I posted a while back about a Robert Sonneman lamp that I rescued...

    Fisher Space Pen

Damn, I just went to order some refills (I appear to not have any blue pens on my desk) and holy cow you guys aren't kidding, traditional space pen is $80 now? It is a nice pen but it isn't really super special quality wise... the magic is in the refill... I am glad I have it but now I...

    Fisher Space Pen

heh. that could be a whole nother thread. I'm typing this on a Glorious GMMK with Boba U4 switches and dev/tty keycaps... I was trying to replicate the feel (and sound, or lack thereof, so my coworkers don't hate me) of an old Alps board and it is pretty close, but obviously modern and uses...

What is the Rolex of Flashlights?

Getting OT here, but I really like the new SS Navigator auto. Were I buying today, I'd seriously consider it as it wears a lot less chunky than the GSAR and relatives. But, I've purchased two "new" (one actually 1974, one late 60s) watches in the last couple years so I really can't justify it.

What is the Rolex of Flashlights?

Probably not oddly, I've had a GSAR since about 2009. I probably wear it at least one day a week if not more, if I *needed* a reliable watch I'd grab either that or my SKX009 (similar age). In retrospect, I probably would have chosen a model with lume, as I had the hands and dial replaced on...

What is the Rolex of Flashlights?

I'll defer to you... I thought they were "preferred" especially for use in explosion proof type environments. I have never had one so can't actually comment on their quality (never had a HDS either but I think I've had at least one of the other brands I mention)

New batteries no longer fitting old flashlights

If you remember the URL, the wayback machine may still have some/all of the files, although you may have to look through several different archives. I had to do this when hhscott.com sadly disappeared.

What is the Rolex of Flashlights?

Are you looking for prestige e.g. Rolex's current status, or an expensive-but-arguably-worth-it, reliable, nearly indestructible tool flashlight, e.g. the kinds of products that made Rolex's name back in their earlier days? For the latter I'd submit HDS Systems and I've been toying with the...

F15T8 - does CRI really matter for task lighting?

Now that I'm home, here's some pics as requested. I love Art Deco styling and other styles from around that era, and I also actively work with drafting at my job although 99.44% of it is CAD. I would love to find a vintage wooden drafting table though and put one of the clamp lights on it...

F15T8 - does CRI really matter for task lighting?

At this point it appears that the choice is between 60 CRI and 3000K/85 CRI unless I want to go down the rabbit hole of trying to find discontinued tubes on eBay, as the two sets of higher CRI tubes that I have are NLA. And yes, I do realize this is kind of a niche application and even F40T8s...

F15T8 - does CRI really matter for task lighting?

Reason I ask is, it seems to be increasingly difficult to find high CRI tubes to fit these lights. https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/good-f15t8-tubes.481482/ yeah, that was me picking up the last couple lights.

F15T8 - does CRI really matter for task lighting?

I found YET ANOTHER Dazor draftsman's lamp at Value Village for $10... has some minor cosmetic issues but presents well, needed literally nothing other than a quick cleaning and a coat of nu-finish which I did today and a pair of stainless wing nuts as this is a clamp on base model and the wing...

Members' experience by brand with leaking alkaline cells.

This, it's "double insulated" if you will. I still use NiMH 9v batteries simply because it's always seldom used equipment that uses them.

    Glass versus plastic headlight lenses

*shrug* I had great luck with mid-80s VWs, mostly German made. The one that was somewhat problematic (an '88 GTI 16V) had been worked on by hacks before I got it. I liked their poor reputation however because I mostly would buy them for <$1k, fix them up a little, and drive them for years...
