Got the drop-in (in) today and I'm pleased to report that the increase in light from the R5 is significant in both throw and spill (especially in terms of spill). Overall the flood is tighter due to the smaller diameter but the hotspot is just a touch larger but seemingly just as intense (could...
I don't know about newer JB's but I have an M1X that is on par with the more numerous Fenix's I've had.
As far as the usage of XM-L's I like them...overdriven or not. I think it gives the best of both worlds.... you get brighter spill and when driven hard you can still get plenty of throw...
I have a Mini123 that looks similar as it spent about 6mo on my keychain.... no problems with it other than some random mode jumping but making sure the battery contact is clean helps with that...
Not that I have tons of lights nor are any super expensive... perhaps the most $$$ was my M1X at I think 120-130ish... but when reaching for a light (when I don't have my E05 handy) I reach for a cheapy (relative term but $15) Romisen from Shiningbeam. I guess I just love the 1XAA form factor...
This is kinda the response I expected... as there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut method to determining beam profile by reflector. I guess I"ll see when the light comes in... thanks for the input!
Seeing that I just ordered a new drop-in for my P20C2 (Has the R5 in it now). I'm curious how two lights with similar emitters may perform (beam profile wise).
I own a P-Rocket with the Xm-L Neutral tint T5. The reflector on this light isn't very deep but deeper than the P20 and a larger...
This thread points to the same thing I noticed in a couple of my lights....
M1X= 700 (emitter lumens) with a thrower head
P-Rocket (810 emitter lumens) with an Xm-L and a much smaller head....
The M1X's beam looks brighter and throws farther but like has been said before... it is a more...
Now that I've got a couple lights with neutral emitters... I'm wanting to try one with a high CRI emitter (perhaps 85 or more) to see how it compares but unfortunately there isn't a really affordable high CRI light (counting out the Terralux pen light for the QC issues and only having a CRI...
Regardless of how I feel about the price/performance ratio... brands putting out lights like this will only draw more people into this hobby so I see it as a win/win for everyone... the more people interested in lights... the more money involved... the more people you'll see start up new...
Great review.... I just wish they had a neutral readily available... From your beam shots it seems the hotspot on the Eagle is stronger than the Zebra's but the Zebra has a slightly larger spill...
I recently received a P-Rocket with the 4B XM-L... the Hotspot is a creamy white... the spill is a nice white-white and the very tips of the viewing angle are greenish but you only see those with the reflector off and are looking at the extreme angles.
I also have an XR-E with a 5c emitter...
From what I can tell... most people buy a fixed beam on here... however... those who have bought a decent flood to zoom light seem to really enjoy them (PaulinMaryland I believe)... Here is one that I've heard good things about and it won't break the bank if you want to give it a whirl... They...
