    Florence 2018

Agreed! "Hatz off to the first responders, doctors, nurses, and power workers. Anyone else who has to show up for work during the storm also deserve a salute."

Movies you watch again and again?

Two that come to mind, and I watched one last week: The Thing (black and white version) and Them.

WHAT BREED AND HOW MANY DOGS[POOCHES!!]?

Great pictures! One reason I made sure I always had a decent light handy for many years was my black and tan dachshund. Short and dark dogs are easy to lose at night. A bright orange collar and leash on walks did help. So did a wide beam 500 lumen light (most recent acquisition). I...

    Reccommend some good sci-fi movies

That is a nice list. Here is a short list of mixed space related movies that are for those days you want something a little different: Silent Running, Heavy Metal, Battle Beyond the Stars, the original BBC version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

RIP Bob Carter aka Sammy Terry

Something for those who remember Sammy Terry and Shock Theater out of Indianapolis. http://www.wthr.com/story/22735944/2013/07/01/bob-carter-sammy-terry-creator-dies-at-83 I remember so many nights with my brothers watching the old flicks (old even then). And of course we kept a flashlight handy.

The news is really bad from there tonight. My thought and prayers go out to those affected.

Hurrican SANDY 2012 - Prediction as to LIGHTS OUT?

Re: Whats with the mid Atlantic states ? To everyone in the path, good luck and stay safe. I hope it is more bark than bite. Assuming cell towers survive, what is a typical operating time on battery power? Academic curiosity as I am well outside the zone, but we do get the occasional ice...

Looking for good emergency house flashlights

I missed your goal to standardize, sorry. You can probably find package deals for Christmas shoppers, and I do suggest a lantern. Buy some spare batteries as well. Happy shopping.

Looking for good emergency house flashlights

For that purpose I like the MagLEDs, a Rayovac Sportsman lantern, or just about any basic light. Bike lights are good for bouncing light off ceilings at low power, depending on the light. Having lost power about 90 minutes ago I can say they all work. Those you can recharge are a good idea if...

Age old solution to fussy machines.

My solution is to say, in a soft and low voice, to the computer or other device in question, "I have wire cutters."

new set screw tool for Mag D switch

Thanks for the heads up on this. I have only worked with older switches. I think that my spare parts base might be limited to garage sales. Or old lights owned by friends or family that have a lot of dust on them and might just be given away...

reliable leave in the car light?

Were you looking for a rechargable light? The Streamlight Strion is pretty small and has a lithium ion battery. The LED version is pretty nice. I recently picked one up to replace the incan version. I am not sure about long term cold or hot storage. Perhaps someone else can chime in with...

9.0 Earthquake hits Japan, tsunami warnings spread through the Pacific

My thoughts and prayers are for all the victims, those still waiting for word of loved ones, the response teams, and especially tonight, those few nuclear plant workers trying to contain the situation. Here is part of The Sons of Martha by Kipling that seemed to fit here: They do not preach...

    Dorcy LED Drop in

These seem pretty good. I picked up a 2-cell unit from Sears recently and put it in an old 2D RayoVac. I like it better than some of the earlier drop-ins. It also worked well in a Mag but I think I like keeping the old Ray running. I agree, these should be good in small lights.
