A question for all you cavers...

Most (actually all serious cavers) people here learned that more expensive, dedicated caving lights are usually worth the money. off topic about caving helmets: Just curious: Which manual is it? Funny that I have this discussions since more than 30 years. It was quite popular with these 4.5V...

The Little Monkey: a great new caving headlamp!

This is also my impression. But people's tastes are different. I prefer is much over the Stenlight (to compare it with a light of a similar class). What I especially like is the 'fuel gauge'. Works better than other fuel gauges on other lights. I got mine about a year ago and had it updated...

A question for all you cavers...

I got my first one in 1996 or 1995. wires in the cables breaking, contact problems both front and rear, switches not working. Battery box top coming off.

A question for all you cavers...

I have seen many Duos failing (including my own). There was even a trip when all four cavers with Duos had problems with them(different ones!). I had a hard time to fix them on the caving expeditions I had been since it was released. They are extremly maintainance unfriendly..... And many...

There go 30 microamps, down the drain...

Re: There goes 30 microamps, down the drain... I have observed that this currents can be highly depending on temperature. So maybe in a hot car, it could be much higher. Warm the lamp to maybe 50° C and check again. (Also self discharge is much higher then).

    Amazing new headlamp for cavers

It has no real advantage over the other caving lights. We used it with a Polysub battery (3.6V ~5Ah) and this was not enough. Ran out of battery every day. Obviously if you have a light like this, you want to run it on full power. If anyone wants it, drop me a note (I will forward it), the...

    Amazing new headlamp for cavers

Yes, I have used one last month. For me it is not worth to look any further at it.

    Project "Hellmeet" (Headlamp)

Yes, for your concept of a small and light lamp you are absolutely correct. There are lights were you can adjust this ratio and it is quite interesting what people feel comfortable with on medium and longer trips (> 8 hours). The point is, that it also depends very much on the kind of cave...

    Project "Hellmeet" (Headlamp)

Javier, I agree with most of your statements, but let me add my comments from my long experience: yes, many of them .-) Come caving with us...... What poor carbide lights do you have .-) OK, serious: As I mentioned many times before, a usual CB carbide light has a very different...

Finding a bulb for my petzel headlamp?

You probably have a Duo. Better stay with the original bulb, the 6V is only the 'nominal' voltage. They work fine with 4 NiMH cells.

    Sternum Lights?

And even the centuries before. Google for 'Freiburger Blende'. I've seen such lamps used as sternum ligth.

Yes, no problem. It will not happen very often. Why? There is no safety problem with deep discharging single cells. it only shortens the lifetime a little bit. There are lots of reasons. But no one is forced to use either protected or unprotected cells. I'm not willing to pay the penalty in...

Hmm, they write: You think that means discharge down to 2.5V? This would be fine for using unprotected cells for me. We will see.

And I wonder how deep it will discharge the cell. Meaning: can I use my plethora of good, but unprotected cells? Was there anything mentioned about this?
