Tell Us What Do You Use Your HeadLamp For?

Don't have time to read the whole thread right now, so I hope nobody else has mentioned this usage: We have big fireworks shows in the summer, and afterward, elbowing through the throngs to get back to your car and fighting traffic to get out of the downtown core can take an hour or more. What...

Review: XTAR D35 Diving Light with 3x XM-L U2 LEDs

Thanks. I just now got back from a walk with the dogs. I brought the D35 and the Dry. I started with the Dry, for about 15 mins. I had it on Turbo, but after a few minutes I started to feel it getting warm so I stepped it back to High. The light stayed warm for the rest of the 15 mins...

Review: XTAR D35 Diving Light with 3x XM-L U2 LEDs

This is a short review of the XTAR D35 diving light, a new triple XM-L U2 light that uses 3x 18650 cells in parallel. I’m not a diver though, so my review won’t cover how this light works under water. (why did a non-diver buy a diving light? I like the UI and beam profile.) Here it is in my...

Do you actually use your strobe functions? For what purpose?

My friend the party dancer guy that I mentioned above, used an AA light for strobe. Or maybe it was a CR123 light, but anyway an EDC light. You never know when a dance party is gonna break out! :)

Do you actually use your strobe functions? For what purpose?

I use strobe on my bike light. A friend of mine used his at a party, when dancing broke out.

Zebralight S6330 and S6330b 2400 Lumen flashlights in the making. .

Interesting email. I would just add a bit to it: I usually use my high-powered lights walking the dogs in the woods. I'm on trails with trees everywhere. If I always pointed the light straight ahead, and always looked straight ahead, what you wrote would probably be true. But I look all...

    **NEW** Spark SP6 Multiple XM-L

Walter, are those numbers reversed? And, do you have any information about the thermal performance of the SP6? I think your review said that you did the run-time tests using a cooling fan, but in actual use, how warm does it get? Many people are curious to know how well the LEDs are...

Swell review. Do you have any thermal measurements?

XTAR S1 - Test Version and Final Version Review

About the flat-top cells issue: if the positive contact is still a flat metal plate, I don't understand why the production version works while the pre-production version doesn't work. I don't have many flat-top cells, so please excuse my speculation: what happens if you use three flat-top cells...

Best 3 x- XML light out there

I suggested to Xtar that for their S1, they should leave the SOS and strobe modes on there, but make the ring so that it takes more effort to push past the steady modes. That way, the SOS and strobe are both easy to access AND not easily accessed accidentally. (as another, preferred option, I...

Best 3 x- XML light out there

Thanks guys. I had heard of some of those, but forgot about them. About the Big Bruiser, isn't that a one-mode light? If so, blaaaat, thank you for playing. That TM-15 looks interesting. Deeper reflectors should mean better throw, right? About the Sunwayman, does anyone know where I can...

Best 3 x- XML light out there

What are my options if I want an off-the-shelf 3x (or more) XM-L, with good throw? I know of the Fenix TK70, Olight SR92, JetBeam RRT-3, and the new Xtar S1... any others?

Detecting PWM with a camera phone

I just tried this with my Google Nexus S, and the same thing happens, so I guess it's not an iphone-camera-specific phenomenon. And it's pretty neat. If we wanted to, we could estimate the duty cycle by measuring the on and off pulse widths.
