battery newbie: What should I choose (18650's and charger)

hello all, having fairly recently taken the plunge into the world of lithium powered flashlights, I'm looking at upgrading from 2xcr123 primaries, to something re-chargeable. as far as I can tell, the battery I need is an 18650. But having read various threads on here, I'm completly confused...

    solarforce l2m holster compatablility

just a quick question. am I right in thinking that the solarforce l2m is (apart from length) compatible with holsters designed for the surfire 6p series? I'm considering the blade-tech vertical light pouch (link) or the Comptac light holder (link)

    XTAR A01 R5 or ITP R01?

Size genuinely isn't an issue, since it's going to be carried in the car. I was even considering the mag-charger, if it wern't for the price, and that's not a small bit of kit. the idea of multi-mode does tempt me, much as I love the simplicity of a simple on/off system.

    XTAR A01 R5 or ITP R01?

I'm looking at getting a budget re-chargeable torch. Currently my primary options are the XTAR A01 R5 and the ITP R01. what research I've found suggests that the ITP brand has a respected company behind it, while XTAR is relatively unknown. however the ITP uses propretiary battery that can't...

Post your home-made lanyard photos! (Part 2)

best i can do is short paracord things, which I use to help me open stuff (pouch lids ect) or as a keyring. past that it's loops of paracord and a figure of eight knot.

How come you never see a firestarter in a swiss army or multitool knife?

the problem with replacing the toothpick or tweezers is that the space made available by removing these tools is so small. the fire lighter would wear down verry quickly. the problem with putting it elsewhere is that it has to be removable, or there must be a removable striker, in order for the...

    UK knife law

any folding knife that has a locking blade (including multi-tools) is illegal for general carry in the uk. however if you have a valid reason to be carrying it at the time, it is fine. the same aplies for any non-locking knife with a blade over 3 inches long. a valid reason would usualy be...

    Survival knife

My suggestion is this: get a mora (or two) thier cheap, thier strong, and thier quite light, so you could happily carry a couple whithout problem. and if one breaks durin use, (assuming day to day use not emergency use) its no real bother, a new one is only a few dollars (although breaking it...

    Cold Steels Knives

personaly I don't think i would buy most of cold steel's product line, for three reasons. 1) The doubts about thier quality 2) ther controversy over the companies selling methods ect (it does strike me that alot of ideas probbably come from custom makers and filter down into production models)...

    Pics of my Boker Subcom.

unfortuneately it's not legal in "even the most restrictive of places" in the uk it requires a "valid legal reason" to carry, as the blade locks. any locking/fixed blade requires such a reason no matter how big (except credit card knives, and swisscard style multi-tools) a valid legal reason...

    tactical jack "protector 3W" flashlight

I only saw the fenix lights after I had bought the Protector. however There was a reason I was trying to avoid AA maglite sized torches. I wanted something shorter. (when my maglite was stolen, the thief put his hand over the front of the torch while I was holding it (out the back of my fist...
