Re: What was the first (and last) flashlight that made you go "whoa . . ."
The first: MG PLI, a floody 500 lumen "wall of light." Or so we all thought of it back then.
The most recent: BLF Q8, with ten times the output of the PLI.
I still have the PLI, and it gets some backyard...
I'm also on some RV forums, and the RVers who are adopting newer battery tech are all buying LiFePO4 batts. RVs get bumped around a lot on rough roads, and the batteries get abused by being discharged more deeply than they ought. LiFePO4 is considered by those people to be the safe and...
FWIW, I have never had a Rayovac Alkaline leak. Can't say the same for Energizer and Duracell, though.
That said, my new DT-400W is loaded with 'loops.
I must have been under a rock for a while. When did they start making 16650 size cells? That's a new one to me.
Personally, if I want slim and short li-ion it's hard to beat a 14500 light.
For $50 you can get a BLF Q8 (or its new label the Sofirn Q8). Roughly 5000 lumens on high. 550 meters of throw. Runs on 1, 2, 3, or 4 18650s (need 4 to get peak performance). Brighter than your car headlights. It's my favorite flashlight, can you tell? They're on ebay among other places...
I don't have any sand-colored lights. I don't have any lights that glow in rainbow colors while turned off. I don't have any lights that get this bright on a single 18650.
But now I will have all of that. In the same light. In 3000K, no less. For under 50 bucks. Who'da thunk it?
I guess I'll run them down in devices one final time and then throw them away. I've used a fat black permanent marker to stripe over the "Tenergy" name so I don't forget which ones. And I just got 8 fresh Eneloops to replace the 7 duds.
My Gyrfalcon has an auto mode like that; pop the cell in and the machine does the rest. But the readout only shows voltage and charge current. I like the idea of having more info presented on screen.
I have some Tenergy Centura LSD NiMH AAs that are acting strangely, even though they are new, and wondering if they are worth keeping. About 16-17 months ago I bought a couple dozen of them (6 packs of 4 cells), sold by Tenergy Corporation and fulfilled by Amazon. I broke open two of the...
On my '08 GX470 the front turn signal bulbs both burned out last year (6 months apart) and the cost to have them replaced was high due to the labor involved. Yes, yes, yes! Replace them!
I looked into LEDs, but they need a diode or resistor or something (I forget exactly) added to the wiring...
Yes, for sure. We had to drive home (about 7 hours of drive time) with the windshield like that. About the time we got to Wichita we ran into a heavy thunderstorm, and the windshield wiper on my side flew completely off! He must have hit it and loosened it off the pivot, but I didn't know...
