    Just wanted to chime in here.... I got a Zebralight SC52 L2 a few weeks ago, and I cannot program anything in H or M modes. Nothing. As far as programming anything in the L modes, easy as pie. I can program them all day long. Just wanted to let you know, that you are not alone.

    Tubed, Yes, the red LEDs can be dimmed... and they are really, really dim on the lowest setting. I would definitely be comfortable using them without fearing losing my night vision. And if the red LEDs were used previously, that is what will come on first so you do not blow out your night...

    Exactly correct. Think of it as a toggle. And it works for every LED (main, 5 mm and red) I tested the Powertap with heavy leather gloves and synthetic winter gloves and it works. Strange. It was not 100% responsive with the taps, but it does work. I also wet my glove fingers and it works...

    Quick questions to help me with my first mod?

    Do you have a DMM (multi-meter) that is capable of testing diodes? If so, set the DMM, and touch each LED leg. When it lights up, that is your polarity.

    Update. My UCL came in from Flashlight Lens, my bezel arrived from Lighthound and my Seoul P4 came in from the Sandwich Shoppe. After 5 minutes at the kitchen table with my Welch Allyn soldering station, and a nice application of Arctic Silver 5; wow, I have a new HDS. No donuts, no halos...
