If you can afford it, McGizmo is as good as it gets.

    carclo optic differences

I've tried out most of the carlco narrow 20mm optics with the previous generations of LEDs. Xpg, XML, nichia 219, even with xpe2. I remember not being satisfied with any of the beams. It would produce squarish beams, or beams with strange artifact patterns. I experimented with different...

    New Surefire e1d led defender?

Boring an e-series body is quite difficult. The problem is the threads for the bezel can become too thin and its strength becomes compromised. A lot of torque can be applied if over tightening, which can tear the threads clean off. Its the reason why we don't see more e-series lights bored for...

Help for torch for elederly neighbour.

My 64 year old mother uses her 2xAA maglite most. Its an older model with 1 brightness at about 40 lumens. Simple to operate with 2 hands. It seems she finds twisting its bezel much easier than pressing a button. Her fingers aren't as nimble as they used to be. Simple interface, its either on of...

    Surefire L1 still relevant?

I've tried my aw16340 in my gen 6 body and it works, and fits fine. It does not fit in my older 4-flats body though. I've read of another member frying his L1 driver, possibly because he/she was using a li-ion in it for months.

    Surefire L1 still relevant?

I have a xpg2 in my older E1L (same optic as the L1). And love the beam. Wider hotspot with similar throw, and even the spill looks nicer because its brighter around the hotspot and gradually fades towards the edge. The xpg2 really works well with that optic. I also used an oring to fill the...

Do you give away flashlights? How often, how many? Price range?

i used to gift lights in the $50-60 range, but i always feel it goes unappreciated. so i dont gift lights that cost more than $15 these days. i always try and keep the gifted lights very simple, like a fenix E01. i do still give close family members more expensive lights, but those lights stay...

    RIP Lighthound.

sorry to see lighthound go. they are also listed as my favorite dealer. wished that i had caught their "christmas sale in july" email earlier. i dont really buy lights anymore, but they had lots of great accessories. i hope the folks of lighthound are doing well, and they will be missed.

If you could only have one EDC light, which would be more important - Flood or Throw?

i always prefer a more throwy beam. its just my preference. i dont like bright spills and the beam being more focused i can get similar results on lower drive currents, thus gaining better runtimes. none of my lights have more than 250 otf lumens by the way.

Malkoff dropin forSurefire G2Z LED Nitrolon Combatlight- help me decide!

i have a M61L hcri in my G2Z. i like it much more than the M61 models because i dont ever have to worry that itll get too hot, which is important for when my family uses it. it also has better run times, and its bright enough for general purpose.

    ZL 501w Question

i have the H501w, and can comfirm it does run less bright with a 14500. years ago when i first got the light i briefly tried it with a aw14500 li-ion. it was less bright so i quickly shut it off. i was unsure if it was safe since that seemed odd.
