What to use for lubing the joint of Leatherman tools

Pretty much anything but WD 40 , Rem Oil at the moment . If you do a lot of food prep ( unlikely for the pliers , but could apply to the blades ) , get mineral oil from the pharmacy , it's food safe . Newbies overoil , old hands do it very sparingly . Chris

I would like a uk legal folder but what?

Victorinox Alox Soldier/Pioneer - highfunction low price . The Farmer is also a good choice for outdoor use . Chris

    Sharpening system

Basically , if I can't solve the problem on the Sharpmaker , I breakout the Japanese waterstones and do it freehand . For field sharpening I use a DMT double sided hone ( Butterfly handled variety ) or a Spyderco doublestuff , I have a couple of doubled sided Strops in a ziplog baggie . I use...

    Show Us Your EDC Folder

The MPR is the first Benchmade that's tempted me in a long while . Of late I've been carrying Alox SAK's or the OH Vic Soldier . The whole Black turd /Tactical genere has turned me off . Chris

    Sharpening system

The Lansky system works , just messy , clunky and too time consuming to use . I go back as far as the Loray ( Grandpa of the Lansky and Gatco - muchg better built ) , I wasn't impressd then , and I'm not impressed now . I would no call it a POS , I feel there are better options out there . Chris

    Smallest tool with most things?

Small pliers aren't really that usefull , hardly any torgue / cutting capability . That goes doubly for small investment cast pliers , which also break easily - truly miniturized past the point of utility ! I would rather have a Minichamp than any of the mini plierbased offerings . Chris

Why does the SAK Spirit have a blunt blade?

The "Butterknife " blade is a very practical work configuration , it grows on you after you get past the optic . Chris

    Sharpening system

I have a plethora of Sharpners . I mostly use a Sharpmaker and various Strops . The EdgePro and the Lansky are just too fiddly for my taste . I use DMT folding double sided hones in the field / jobsite , along with a Spyderco Double stuff . I have a whole slew of Japanese waterstones , which I...

When did folders first become prevalent?

In the US/Canada the Buck 110 started the trend back in the late sixties . Gerber , Al Mar , Spyderco , and Benchmade accelerated the trend . Chris

    anyone EDC limited editions?

I don't have any safe queens . Limited addition Prodo's don't very often appreciate in value . They are tools , enjoy them . customs might be a different kettle of fish , EDCing a Ron Lake folder might be a bit rich for my blood . Chris

    What's your EDC, Go-To, or favorite knife/knives?

Knife wise , my present go to's are one or other of my Alox vic's. and/or my new Vic. 09 OH Soldier . I rarely cary dedicated locking folders anymore , as their capabilities are so limited comparted to SAK's and Multis . By and Large they just aren't worth the weight penalty . The one Tactical...

Three years of using the ** SureFire L1 ** – A short history

I had a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 L1 , both have been given to good friends , both still going strong . I need another , one of the best EDC's ever . Chris

    Multi - Tool Recommendation

I would tend to stay away from Gerber , build quality is spotty , and I decline to say what it's spotted with ! Chris

Best of the $20-40 lightweights with a clip

Boker Trance , or Spyderco Delica . Chris

    Flashlights are not for self-defence!

I respectfully disagree with the OP , fistloads work ! No need for fancy bezels , a hammerfist blow to the center of the faceplate relies more on neurological insults to the CNS ( big time electrical disruption ) , laceration is not needed . My informal experiments lead me to believe that an...
