Micro ATL G5 and G5 eX preview

Thanks guys, a sad day indeed when I realized that I had to pull the plug on the project. I think there is definately a market for these types of lights as evidenced by Mecarmys very nice little SGN3 and several other similar offerings out there. And because I ended up having to sell the...

Micro ATL G5 and G5 eX preview

Hey Tixx, really appreciate your interest in the G5. Unfortunately, there just doesn't appear to be enough interest in general to move the project forward. Probably should have made an announcement a while back but for now at least, the project is on hold.

    QTC Longevity

One thing I've noticed with the QTC material, is that you cant have the compression device turning on the material itself. ie. you don't want to have the anode of the battery turning against the QTC material or it will break it down. I've made pills with copper or aluminum that compresses the...

    What did you mod today?

More than happy to. I'll try to get some pics but basically, I removed the low mode membrane switch from the pill on the Illuminex 4 and replaced it with a custom silicone gasket that had the same thickness and squishiness (can't believe the spell checker didn't light up over that) as the QTC...

    What did you mod today?

I finally got ahold of some QTC (quantum tunneling composite) material to experiment with and used it to replace the low setting on my Mecarmy Illuminex-4. I always wanted a lower low in my Illuminex-4 but with only two modes, it was too big a jump from moonlight to full brightness. I had an...

MecArmy IllumineX (10180, XP-G2, TIR optic) Photos, Impressions

I've noticed that the O-ring likes to migrate out of its groove if it isn't lubed up pretty well and it will get chewed up by the lid grooves. I've had good results keeping it in place by lubing it up with silicone grease.

List Lights that use NO PWM

The mighty Illuminex-4. Two modes, no PWM.

MecArmy IllumineX (10180, XP-G2, TIR optic) Photos, Impressions

Agreed!! They absolutely hit it out of the park with this little light. I think the 10180 is going to hold up well. I've been using the heck out of mine and after being charged up three days ago and getting shown off at a party where everyone wanted to try it out, it is still close to fully...

(Poor ?) Thermal design on the MecArmy IllumineX/CooYoo Quantum

My apologies but I had to correct the max current listed for the Illuniex-4, in my above post. In stock form, with a fully charged battery, the Illuminex-4 on the low setting runs at 26ma, while on the high setting runs at 200ma. I inadvertently listed the readings from my modified light that...

    Mecarmy Illuminex-4 Tips and Tricks

I've really been enjoying using and modding my Illuminex-4! It's a great little light but it does have a couple of quirks. I'm going to write up a post on some mods I've done in the Homemade Forum at some point but I wanted to do a quick piece on some fixes I've found for several complaints...

    *New* MecArmy SGN3 keychain light

I absolutely agree, red would make a great first setting. And I'd drop the blinking second red setting. Unfortunately, even though this is a great little light with a lot of neat innovations, I don't carry it very often. For the most part because of the UI but also because of the accidental...

    *New* MecArmy SGN3 keychain light

I really like my SGN3 and yet... I too have had accidental turn ons with this light in my pocket, no skinny jeans but I believe what happens in my case at least, is that the light can get powered on when I lean up against something or maybe carrey something that bumps up against the switch. I...

MecArmy IllumineX (10180, XP-G2, TIR optic) Photos, Impressions

I took my Illuminex-4 apart and can say that it definately does not use a PWM. My reason for dissasymbling a perfectly good (great!) little light was that I wanted a lower low mode, something more along the lines of a moonlight/firefly mode. I've annalyzed the circuit and will probably do a...

(Poor ?) Thermal design on the MecArmy IllumineX/CooYoo Quantum

I've had and have been enjoying my Illuminex-4 for a couple of weeks now and am more and more impressed by this little light. I have however noticed, as you pointed out, that there doesn't appear to be much in the way of a heatsink or thermal management in this little guy. Oddly though, this...
