your most expensive flashlight...was it worth the price?

Wow...amazing how quickly you can get out of date...I thought ARC was long gone... I have to admit that does seem a truck load of cash for that light - would have been amazing when they were around before, but up against even something like a Fenix etc... seems a little on the high side... I...

Problem with Tenergy 18650s in Fenix TK30

Awesome my friend, thanks! I checked my original packing and found the thing you mentioned - had assumed it was just a lanyard and found the spacer and a whole bunch of spare o rings - that's service!!....still a little touch and go with the spacer, but if you poke the cells through until they...

Problem with Tenergy 18650s in Fenix TK30

OK, so when I ordered by TK30 on Amazon it offered me 4 Tenergy PCM 18650s and a plug in 2 cell charger as part of a package, so I assumed it would all work together. Having just had the batteries arrive (3.82V no load) I tried them in the Fenix and had several problems: 1) They barely fit...

    Light for Africa

well I'd love to say Maxabeam, given that I have one in classifieds, but in the situation you describe, I think you need a little better portability. (unless you run the Maxabeam just off the car 12V socket - but I still think you won't more carry ability). My choice would be my AE Light...

    Flashlight for sailboat?

For me, it's a Surefire A2 with red leds and white xenon...easy to handle and pocket, lived on the boat 24/7 for several years without decay, through hot and cold, wet and dry, been in foulie pocket for ocean crossings and big waves - when I get it home I just dunk it shallow fresh water to get...

your most expensive flashlight...was it worth the price?

Maxa Beam... Worth it - because of the sheer power of the thing and flexibility of the beam shape/throw. "must have factor" Not worth it - because I never use it in anger. Was always frightened to carry in the car in case lost/stolen/lamp broke - so bought a spare lamp kit - still didn't...

    Power outage

Regarding the router/modem....I just did the same thing down here in NC for the "big snow event"... I have a portable setup that consists of two 6V lead acid "exit sign" batteries duct taped and bridged in series (cheap at hardware stores and 7Ah) and use that to run a 4" square 400W inverter...

    New Surefire E2DL 200 LUMENS?!?!

You know this looked attractive until I read the operating mode thing... Don't like that the first press on gives maximum output then have to press again to get low output... thought their older approach was better or to have a collar like the U2. I guess because it is pitched at the self...

cool - thanks for the info - TK30 sounds like a Surefire M3 on steroids but without the 20 min run-time! If I need more than it can do, I have my AE Powerlight HID - that's the one I keep in the car and its best kept secret is the diffuser lens which turns any scene from day to night - just...

    TK40/TK30 fan club

You guys that are running TK40s...with AAs... What rechargeable AAs are you using (make/capacity) and how does that affect the published runtimes compared with off the shelf duracells etc... Trying to decide between TK30 (18650 - being new to me) or TK40 and AAs. Don't like the idea of...

Best 18650 setup for Fenix TK30?

Hi, finally got the Fenix bug after years of Surefires... TK30 seems appealing for many reasons and I'm particularly thinking about the rechargeable option which I haven't done with the SFs. The 18650 scene seems extremely complex for sizes etc... does anyone know a very capable make of...

how many lumens are needed to read

Re: how many lumens are needed to Just a thought - most people over estimate the answer to this question. viz a Surefire L1 (old model) on low is usually about the right amount and this is around 0.5 lumen. To put this in context, a Surefire U2 with the variable output is still way way too...

Need input - "AA" long runtime, short runtime

I think that you are looking at this the right way...using things for what they are best at. For markers in disasters, I still prefer a bag of chem light sticks... For long run time, use AAs, yes, and my favorite is the SL 4AA 7 LED. Not as bright as the luxeon version, but plenty of good...

    Nice 250MCP searchlight on Ebay

You know when you look at the font on the label and on the connectors, I'd be easily convinced that PeakBeam (Maxa Beam) had been involved in the manufacture of this... Anyone know if they do this kind of stuff for the military above and beyond old faithful...
