Great review, thank you. I'm hoping you can answer a question about the ability of the SG5 to memorize the modes. The Spark ST5 claimed the same feature, where the light would remember which mode you used last. However, I found the lamp would not remember the mode when using AA batteries...- tedh

help choosing headlamp, cold environment
The one that comes to mind is the Surefire Minimus AA. I don't own one, so I can't speak to how easily it is adjusted while wearing mittens, but I have found rotary switches to be better than buttons when my hands are covered. Take a look, I'm curious what you think. Ted -

Nice review, thanks. My frustration with the ST5 was it doesn't memorize levels with an Eneloop, although apparently it does with a 14500. Does the SD-52 have the same behavior? Or does it really memorize levels with Eneloops? Thanks. -

Yes, the instructions mention this: "AA battery with short term memorization". "Short term" seems to be measured in seconds. For me, it's a deal breaker, I'll be selling mine, I'm afraid. No memorization means I have to wait for the headlamp to cycle through until I get the level I want, and... -

JordyC - I've used both headlamps for hiking and running, and the H51 absolutely bounces more than the petzls.
