I find the designation of 4500k as "entry level" to be rather odd, as if there are some color temperatures that are only suitable for more experienced flashlight users with advanced skills. 😄

The XP-E 3700K is a gorgeous emitter. Beautiful tint, and some of the best color rendering you'll find in an LED, comparable to that of an incandescent source.

That's the emitter I have in my Rotary

I almost never turn the locator beacon off, and my rechargeable batteries easily last for weeks with regular daily use of my Rotary. The small amount of extra drain is really not worth worrying about.

My beloved high CRI Rotary is anything but "basically brand new". And I wouldn't have it any other way!

All I know is that an HDS Rotary today is about twice what I paid for one a decade ago.

I mainly use the handle bar mount when I'm on the road and want to maximize my visibility to motorists, so it's not something that will get much use in rough and tumble off-road riding. That said, it probably would have been fine if I had taken a moment to cinch the velcro tighter, or if I had...

I went back out and looked today. I didn't expect to find it, and I didn't. Challenging ride, though, since it had rained last night, and the trail and exposed tree roots were very slick. It forced me to go slow and carefully choose my line which also gave me an opportunity to scan the ground...

I doubt there is any hope of my finding it. It would be akin to winning the lottery. Not to mention that searching while riding would be almost impossible since it's a fairly technical trail that requires concentration if you don't want to wreck.

Sad day. Lost my many years old cool white Rotary on a bike ride. I forgot to remove it from the handlebar holder, and somewhere on a five mile trek over a gnarly single track trail, it jiggled loose. I glanced down and noticed it missing with no idea when or where it might have fallen off. I...

Now if only I could afford one (or justify buying a light I really don't need.:p)

Is There A Limit To Bike Lights?

My general rule: When riding your bicycle at night, you can never be too visible.

Help Me Select A Bicycle Taillight

This is what I use: https://cygolite.com/product/hotshot-pro-150-usb/ It's rechargeable, lasts for many hours on a single charge, has multiple flash patterns, is clearly visible for hundreds of yards even in bright sunlight, and it's made in the USA.

Many years ago, I visited the staircase where they filmed their award winning The Music Box where they had to maneuver a piano up an absurdly long flight of stairs. Doesn't look the same as it did in the 1930s since it is now flanked by houses on both sides (at the time of filming, the houses...
