    GD1000 vs SOB 1000 on 4 alkalines

Thank you for the very helpful responses everyone. I'll definitely go with the SOB on this mod, but I think I'll pick up a couple of the GD's to play with on some upcoming projects.

    GD1000 vs SOB 1000 on 4 alkalines

I'm currently modding a M*g 4D as a gift and am having difficulty finding a suitable convertor board. I'd like to stick with alkalines for the time being due to cost/convenience (I know NiMH would solve my problems). I will be using a Seoul P4 USWOH. It appears that the SOB 1000 would work...

Help me decide on soldering station

I'm not familiar with Antex or iroda, I may have to check them out. I hadn't really considered butane that much because most of the work I do that would be more convenient with a cordless iron is large car audio type stuff that requires a big iron. Are you talking about used or new irons on...

Help me decide on soldering station

I know that this question has been asked here a few times in the past, but I'd like some up-to-date opinions. I'm setting my budget at around $75-100. My three choices seem to be the following: - a Hakko 936-12 (about $90 including tax, etc.) - Weller wes51 (about $100 right now, but more...

Yet another SSC P4 - MAG 3D (pics, beamshots)

Re: Yet another SSC P4 - MAG 3D (pics) Nice job. After this thread, I think I'm convinced I need to do my own mag mod.

I've finished my bike lights!! Now with Beam Shots

Re: I've finished my bike lights!! Of all the homemade bike setups I've seen, that has to be by far the cleanest rig I've ever seen. I'm very impressed and very jealous! Nice job.

    UV uses?

I've also gotten to work with UV in constructing DNA microarrays ("gene chips"), protein microarrays, and in activating photosensitive growth factors. That was a 200 Watt mercury lamp, though. I kept a nice tan just from the glare coming off the filters and optics . They always save the...

    UV uses?

Several types of fungal skin infections will fluoresce yellow to yellow-green under 365 nm. It's a great icebreaker for first dates. :)

    Cree response to Luxeon Rebel?

The only reason I haven't written it off yet as a hoax is the fact that the grammar is perfect. No offence to PEU, but, if he did write it, he put a lot more work into the English than he does in his post. If this is true, then that's once heck of leap in LED efficiency. That's kinda...

LED Therapy! (seriously -- for skin [and psych] problems)

Re: LED Therapy! (seriously -- for skin problems) That's interesting. I hadn't heard of those uses, but I do see the use of UV light fairly regularly in medicine from the treatment of psoriasis to the treatment of jaundice in newborns. Seeing the newborn infants lying in their miniature...

    1,000 lumens led ???????????

From the spec sheet, it looks like the Cree model uses 9 XR-Es, rather than 3. ~110 lumens per Cree isn't too bad, but that's still a lot of heat to dissipate.
