Philips 4' T8 LED retrofit lamps

I had a tombstone go out in one of my basement shop light fixtures, and needed a bulb, so I got a couple of the Phillips lamps. I had some random electronic ballasts in these fixtures from when they were still fairly uncommon, guessing ~15+ years ago. The Phillips bulbs started right up and...

Recommendations requested: A suitable machine shop to make a single small part

I had to look at the date, this comes up on a regular basis and the answers are always the same. I have a friend that always insists on pictures when I have a technical question. Of course he never sends me pictures when he wants something from me. I'm a particularly visual person. You...

    substitute for an emergency collet?

that's nice work. My chuck doesn't have tongue and groove jaws, the jaws are one piece. So I would have to get master jaws, if such a thing even exists for my chuck I forgot I wanted the expandable arbors while Enco had their special going on

    substitute for an emergency collet?

thanks for your help. I ended up just faking it in my 6 jaw, it worked pretty well. I need to get some of those mandrels though. I was looking at jaws for my chuck, it's a lot of money, so I'm thinking about just going with a new chuck with two piece jaws.

    substitute for an emergency collet?

You got a little push back in that thread on practical machinist. I always wanted two piece jaws, but I have to do more research on that. I was looking again at the expanding mandrels. Since my washers are nominally 1/4" ID, I probably would want a bigger mandrel than that. However, it's not...

    substitute for an emergency collet?

thanks, I forgot about machinable top jaws, I always wanted a set. Or maybe I'll just machine them instead since that's effectively free. Don't people occasionally bore their jaws to true them?

    substitute for an emergency collet?

I am making some decorative washers, and my cutoff tool doesn't make the backs flat. So I would like to flatten them. Don't think chucking them up in the 6 jaw is going to work. I was thinking about getting an emergency collet and machining it, but they are expensive. I guess they figure if...

2015 - latest hotness in cutoff battery lights?

I know it's not a cutoff, but the Cygolite Expilion 850 has a fresnel lens that really cuts off the top of the beam very effectively. I used it quite a bit earlier this spring, and I was surprised how effective the cutoff is

using B&M tail light with Supernova? Also, DIY Cree X-RE tail light?

it reminds me of a resistor pack, but I'm not sure if there are similar looking diode packs.

using B&M tail light with Supernova? Also, DIY Cree X-RE tail light?

2x emitters seems like it might be blinding. Since this is my off-road (-ish) bike, maybe that will not be a problem. Not sure if the supernova headlight has limiting in it, I don't really want to take the taillight apart to see what's in there. I've seen a picture of a disassembled supernova...

using B&M tail light with Supernova? Also, DIY Cree X-RE tail light?

I have a supernova and don't really want to pay for a tail light when I have a stack of B&M sitting in a drawer. I have seen hints that people have done this. I'm also thinking about DIY'ing a light using one of my cree XRE red LED's for this. I am curious how Supernova does their circuit...

Helping a friend's brother selll his Enco 13x40 gap bed gear head lathe- pick up only

Pretty sure any lathe of that size is worth $500 as long as it can be used to cut. However, I used one of those lathes once and was not impressed. There is an essay out there somewhere entitled something like "in praise of junker lathes," which I agree with. Executive summary is that any...

Helping a friend's brother selll his Enco 13x40 gap bed gear head lathe- pick up only

I'm sure that would go for $1000 around here, you just never see any machine tools for sale. Does look like it had no wear, but the fact that the start cap is hanging loose is not a good sign
