    Lanterns

Yes, the Sportsman Extreme is currently my brightest LED lantern by a good margin. It is significantly brighter than either the UCO Flip or River Rock. Below are pics for comparison done with my Canon 30D DSLR, Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC Macro HSM @ 28mm, 1/13sec., f6.3, ISO 200. Sportsman...

    Tiablo A9 R2, R5 and Q5

Generally speaking, Q5 and R2 are XP-E Cree emitters where the R2 is more efficient and brighter. R5 is an XP-G Cree Emitter that is a slightly larger die so it has less surface brightness than R2 and Q5 so it inherently has less throw capability with more of a floody beam and larger hotspot but...

    New Jetbeam products, RRT-15, RRT-21

Agreed. I do not like slip-on clips. They are not as strong as the captive ones. ...but I like the lights and JetBeam in general. I have 4 JetBeams and counting.

    Lanterns

The UCO Flip lantern is about as bright as my River Rock and much weaker than the Sportsman Extreme and sized somewhat in between. What I like about it though is its versatility. A decently bright lantern and then flip the LED and it's a nice floody flashlight. Check out the frosting job on my...

    Lanterns

The Sportsman Extreme is my brightest LED lantern. My River Rock is nice and bright too. But the Coleman Packaway, especially the Exponent, is pretty bright and it is nice and small when not in use. The beam is terrible though and needs a quick and easy mod to fix it.

How many lights are in your EDC rotation and what are they?

True EDC? Well, I only have 1 of 3 lights that are on my person at all times (except sleeping, showering, etc), and those are either my Quark Mini123, Maratac AAA or ITP A3 EOS Stainless 1xAAA. Of those the Mini123 is my most carried. In my Maxpedition Falcon II backpack however, I have my...

    So many ugly beams!

I see your point. My Nitecore D20 (w/ OP) has a well defined hotspot and then the spill with little transition between the 2 but no artifacts or significant rings. Many of my lights are like that. But this is preferred for "spotting" type tasks. The reason I have so many lights is to have the...

Help choose AA variable light for Grand Canyon trip.....

Yep, mine is slightly lighter HA-III on the head. I have other JetBeams that are this way too like my C-LE v2. It doesn't bother me as I am not that anal about the finish. I buy lights to use not to look pretty on the shelf. I have a Surefire E1L Outdoorsman that's even worse than my JetBeams.

Help choose AA variable light for Grand Canyon trip.....

I have the JetBeam RRT-0 and can easily recommend it. It has the control ring for selecting the brightness level that you mentioned and has no annoying strobe/flashing modes. The S2 version is 180 lumens on a AA and goes as low as 3 lumens. You need to get the AA extender but you will then have...

    So many ugly beams!

Probably the smoothest and nicest beams I have is the Inova X03 (non-TIR). It has an OP reflector and the beam is buttery smooth from spot to spill with zero artifacts. But to be perfectly honest, in actual usage, especially outdoors, the smoothness of the beam quality plays no significant role...

What was the last LED light you purchased and why?

I haven't bought a light in a while. To tell you the truth, I've been quite satisfied with the many lights that I have now. I know... BLASPHEMY!!! But I couldn't resist the JetBeam BC40. 830 ANSI-FL1 lumens for $70 was hard to resist. Plus, BateryJunction had a 10% off all day sale yesterday so...

    What's the Inova X2 like?

It's rugged, simple, has a smooth beam, is plenty bright, has momentary and it's an atractive light. The grip on it is just fine with its matte black finish. It has more grip than many lights with knurling like the MiniMagLED 2xAA. I have 2 X5's, 3 X1's, 2 X2's, and 2 XO3's ('07, '10). They...

Bayco Night Stick and Dorcy LED PR bulb Reviews

I just picked up the 61 LED version for $20 at Lowes. 60 LEDs arrayed for the floodlight and a CREE (warm tint) on the end. The flood is quit bright. Maine takes 4xAA. It also has 2 rubber-booted buttons to operate the different modes. One switch is momentary and controls the "spot" light and...

What was the last LED light you purchased and why?

I got the Bayco Nightstick from Lowes. Why? Because it was there. It was totally an impulse item. I was there to buy a new dishwasher and refrigerator and was in line to pay and there it was. Somehow it went from the encap display to my hand  and i didn't notice till I got home...

Coleman Packaway (Exponent?) 4xAA LED quick beam mod

Great idea! Any way you diffuse it, it improves the lantern immensely. I've been using the heck outta my packaway and there is no wear on the frosting as well as no binding issues.
