For me, it’s still the Fenix E01 — warts and all.
To be fair, my expectations of 1xAAA are pretty low. To me these are backup lights; which means that reliability, simplicity, and cost are prioritized.
In the past year alone, I've probably sent upwards of ten unanswered emails. That, coupled with the battery-crushing design (which is admittedly robust) has put me off. It's too bad, too, because I'd pay the premium prices otherwise.
I just scored a blue E01 and I’m totally excited for it. I’ve already got a 6+ year-old black one that’s beat to hell and keeps on tickin’. Same goes for the purple one I keep in my daypack, actually.
Suffice to say, I’m very sad to see the E01 go.
For me it’s current-control (as opposed to PWM). I’ve always been very sensitive to motion sickness/sea sickness/etc. and even high-frequency PWM triggers feelings of nausea.
Second is CRI — preferably with a 4000k CCT tint or lower (down to 3000k). I’ll never buy another CW light again...
Can anyone give me their impressions of the neutral XP-G2 MDC AA? More specifically, is the neutral tint generally regarded as pleasant? I’ve been spoiled by awesome experiences with Malkoff’s neutral XP-L tints. lol
It's hard to beat the Lumintop Tool if you're looking at 1xAAA. You get several options when it comes to construction (Al, Ti, Cu), you get to choose between clicky and twisty, and you also get to choose between CREE and Nichia emitters.
I can see why some might view it this way.
For my use-case, however, the C01 is more like a cousin to the E01 than a direct descendant. C01 is much more task-specific. Both are awesome, though.
I got mine today (warm in black) and it's an excellent little light. The beam is super floody -- if I didn't know any better I'd say it's almost mule-like.
The Yuji LED is impressive, but perhaps I'm biased as I love super-warm tints for indoor use and up-close use.
My advice: don't expect...
Illumn needs to stock up on Nichia drop-ins. I'm going crazy with all of this waiting. :)
I also need to decide if I want the M31 or the M31L...or the M31LL.
Question for you guys in regards to 18650:
Do you guys fret over charging/discharging your batteries?
I want to like this battery chemistry, but at the same time I miss how nonchalant I'm able to be with my NiMH-powered lights. Basically, I want to be able to use the light until output drops...
Has anyone done a rutime test on the Nichia M31 with 2xAA Eneloops? Or is there some approximation out there that I'm not seeing (I've searched quite a bit)?
