Re: SHOT 2008 You know you want to go. I'm trying to wrangle a few people from my area out.

    Mag 100 Question

I have a Mag100 setup using a Osram 62138 100 watt bulb being overdriven a bit. Using 12xCBP1650's in an FM holder and using an AWR hotdriver to round out the package in a bored/HA'd 3D host. I'm told this should be ~2800 lumens out the front.

    Shootings at Virginia Tech

As far as "investigation" periods, the FBI and many states can now do them in less than 5 minutes, verify if you have a record or any questionable past. If questionable they put a hold on the sale. All that will do is make it harder for my to buy guns. Why would I need a "cooling off" period...

    Bought a new backpacking stove.

I'll be out at the end of the month using my Trangia for a weekend. I'll try to remember to post my impressions.

How can I waterproof my pack?

Well it all comes down to how long and what level of rain will you see. All my bags coated with campdry are fine for ~30+ minutes motorcycle commutes in pouring rain. For longer term, or backpacking, then a cover is the way to go.

    Bought a new backpacking stove.

I picked up a Trangia mini stove a few months back. Haven't used it in the field yet, but did use it at home a couple times. I love how small and quiet it is.

How can I waterproof my pack?

I've always used Camp Dry on my packs, it works good, but smells bad for a few days. Check out what REI sells, whatever they have will be good. www.rei.com

    Surviorman/Man vs Wild?

Re: Survivorman I love Surviverman, but Man vs. Wild is a little too over the top. While it is entertainment, he takes risks that should never be done if you're trying to survive. Being stuck in the woods is not a time to waste energy on an adrenaline fix.

    Surefire L4

Actually the OpticsHQ full discount takes quite a bit more off that for membership, and CPF discount. But what matters is you have one, and like it!

    Surefire L4

Not that I'm aware of, but lots of people were using full Aleph 2 stage tailcaps. I've actually found a McE2S in a Z52 to be easier to work than the full Aleph tail I borrowed a while back.

    Surefire L4

Last I checked the Sandwich Shoppe had a large supply of McE2s stage switches in stock. I was worried 8 months ago and bought the last one they had.

Need L4 2 stage switch in HA Natural

No dremeling needed to install a MCE2S in a Z57 tailcap. I had mine installed there for a while, but found the switching was smoother in a Z52. The rubber doesn't have to be replaced with a Z57, but if you don't it leaves a bit of takeup on the press before the switch activates.

Other car care tips for a new owner?

I see it as to each their own. But it also kinda reminds me of the grandma with plastic slip covers on the couch. I'd rather enjoy my interior and spend a little more time cleaning it up.
