    Interesting-looking battery holder

http://www.personalbatterycaddy.com/html/12Paack.htm A bit large for my purpose, but thought I'd pass it along.

Looks like some interesting parts just became available

SSC P7 CSW0J 12W LED Emitter http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=4312 SSC P7 8x7135 2.8A Board http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=4338 This combo better put out some serious light if they can drain four Eneloops in an hour. Anyone seen Zero Enigma?

Cree Q5, no driver, just resistors

If that 4.7 ohm resistor is really rated for only half a watt, you'll be cooking the resistor. Not sure if the resistor will cook open or closed, but if it cooks closed, you'll cook your LED too. I did all of the calculations by hand. Before frying a $10 LED, you might want to run the numbers...

Cree Q5, no driver, just resistors

The math is fairly straight forward (Ohm's law), and I'll walk you through it. You find the Vf chart or table for your LED, such as here. For the Cree XR-E, that table lists Vf for 1000ma at 3.7 volts. You're going to use a 6 volt battery. At 1000ma, you need a 2.3 volt drop (6 volts of your...

A special project has me stumped.

If I had to do this, I'd go to RadioShack and buy two 10:1 transformers, such as these...

    Lenses for Road Riding

I do almost all of my night riding on a paved trail which is mostly straight, but with a few curves. I've ridden the trail enough times that I know it quite well. That said, you'll want throw AND spill. You'll need throw so you can see and avoid someone on foot before you run into them, and...

Aluminium for Achealot type light.and VIDEO BEAMSHOT

Re: Aluminium for Achealot type light.+ start of build They make Teflon insulated hookup wire for just this reason, as Teflon has a higher melting point (327 C) than 60/40 solder (190 C). You can also purchase Teflon tubing to slide over bare wire.

Bike Light - Need medium thrower with 18650, 2xAA, or 2xRCR132

I ride on the road and on a paved trail. I purchased four of the original version of these: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1995 (FYI, I did have to mod them with a wavy copper wire ring in the head to keep them from dimming) My intention was, two for the bike, one for my truck with...

    Maha MH-C9000 Disassembled

That's called a zebra strip. It's layers of a bunch of conductors (carbon impregnated rubber) and insulators (rubber). It's cheaper and easier to use than two sets of connectors and a ribbon cable, and works fine for low current connections, such as an LCD display.

    First impressions..DX: L1P type with Seoul !! MTE 1xAA SSCP4 42180-U

I'm still waiting for my DX MTE to show up in the mail (it shipped Friday), but I've been following this thread to see what I should expect. I developed similar flickering problems with my Advanced Auto Parts 2C Luxeon. It turned out that there is a ring (looks like a washer) which screws in...

    First impressions..DX: L1P type with Seoul !! MTE 1xAA SSCP4 42180-U

I'm glad you pointed that out, as I just ordered five of the DX version of this light. And that's after ordering, and then canceling (due to the delay), four JetBeam CL-Es from DX. For an additional 20 lumens, I'll gladly pay the extra $3.

    Hybrid cells Rayovac

I did. They snail mailed me a rebate for a $5 rebate for proof of purchase of a hybrid charger and pack of hybrid batteries. The lady on the phone knew nothing about the $5 off coupon.
