    Cheap recommendations on AA LED.

It would be hard to beat the lumens/buck ratio of Deal Extreme's set of seven 9-led 3xAAA flashlights for $13. We bought two sets for my place of business and all worked and all have proved useful time and again. The batteries for each light can cost more than the light itself. Deal Extreme is...

Rayovac Sportsman Extreme 300 Lumen Lantern - MORE INFO ???

Do you mean the former Quality Farm and Fleet? That's now Tractor Supply Co. around here. Thanks for the tip.

    Trustfire F20 Cree any good?

It's the poor man's Akoray K-106, even looks like it (the F20 is slightly shorter). The F20's not programmable, and the PWM is far more coarse (you can see the flicker in LO), but it's a very good 5-mode light that's about as bright as an Akoray for less $. Is it 230 lumens? Well, mine isn't...

Rayovac Sportsman Extreme 300 Lumen Lantern - MORE INFO ???

$25 this week at west Michigan Lowes. Just brought one home. This makes it slightly cheaper (ignoring gas money) than the current Amazon deal. The light output on high is roughly equivalent to this slightly cheaper but well-made 48-bare-LED D-cell lantern from Deal Extreme...

    Ray-O-Vac 3C 150 Lumen Flashlight

Got a replacement from Meijer. Keep a tight grip on that receipt. We'll see how this one goes. One thing I noticed was the threads are much smoother on this sample. Will report any problems.

    Ray-O-Vac 3C 150 Lumen Flashlight

Well, it was bright for awhile. This morning I noticed the color veering off toward yellow (!) and five seconds later it was dead. The thing had been on for about 30 seconds. Back to Meijer it goes..

    Ray-O-Vac 3C 150 Lumen Flashlight

They've reached western-Michigan Meijer, at least. Grandville store has a few of 'em, and a few of the other Sportsman Xtreme LED products as well, including the goofy headlamp. Not the most uniform spread from central hotspot to corona (or whatever you guys call it) I've ever seen, but very...

    Nexxtech 1W 3xAAA Luxeon - Clearance v. WF-602A1

Not so dumb. I bought one. Might make a good donor if nothing else.

    Luxeon headlight at ALDI

For $17, not bad. Heatsinked, 3AAA (but no carrier), one Lux, two 5mm Nichioids, one red. No dimming, kinda big and clunky looking (rather like the Brinkmann 3w), but cheap and cheerful and bright and white (with just a hint of bluishness) and water resistant. Has a stoplight-type LED battery...

    Cheap, Commonly available Headlights...

I agree with you about the River Rock (from Target). It may be blue, but at least it's consistently blue! There's nothing worse than fumbling around in a dark basement looking for colorcoded wires illuminated by an LED that can't decide if it's blue, white, yellow, green or puce. All right...

Craftsman 3 AAA LED Tool Light

Thanks for telling the story of ******* Amperage. These days when you see an interesting juxtaposition of words, you can't assume you're dealing with someone with an imagination. Just snagged another Craftsman, just in case. Is there a source for dummy AA cells, or does everyone make their own?

Word to the wise; I put it back in the Craftsman. Thanks for the informative headsup.

Craftsman 3 AAA LED Tool Light

Won't alkalines sag to well below 6v trying to drive a Luxeon? Depending on current draw, probably lower than the 4.8 of nimh cells, but I haven't tested this myself on this particular flashlight. What symptoms of Luxeon overdriving should a CPFer look out for?
